ARAMARK Student Sustainability Intern - Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pennsylvania

Job Description

The Sustainability Internship will provide a student with the unique experience of working with a business entity (the dining services provider), campus organizations, departments and Kutztown University as a dining liaison in the development and implementation of a sustainability plan. This individual will work closely with Dining Services in the developing and providing information through the outlined duties. The Sustainability Intern will have an integral role in the creation and implementation of a comprehensive sustainability/marketing plan for the campus.

Period of internship: late August through mid-May; start and end date is negotiable (minimum of 17 weeks per semester/5 hours per week). Work hours varies; some evening and weekend hours may be required for events.

Job Responsibilities

  • Align Dining Services and University sustainability vision

  • Assist in the development of the sustainability programs and events.

  • Coordinate any special needs and/or schedule promotional services (i.e. attendance during Going Green Dinners, Weigh the Waste events).

  • Oversee and aid in the execution of programs as a corporate representative of Aramark.

  • Participate as a member of the marketing team in the development of a campus-wide marketing plan for programs and events as it relates to sustainability.

  • Tracking and describing the recycling processes within Dining Services.

  • Evaluating the recycling and composting program for efficiencies

  • Identifying connections between the Dining Services recycling and the College?s overall recycling program

  • Serve as liaison between the student body and Dining Services as it relates to sustainability.

  • Partner with the SPARK student organization on campus

  • Prepare sustainability marketing materials (banners, posters, table tents, etc.) as requested by Dining Services and/or College.

  • Assist in creation of and implementation of assessment instruments. Compile and analyze data; reporting results to the College.

  • Prepare a summary report of sustainability activities at the end of each academic semester for the College and Dining Services; may include oral presentation.

  • Track, evaluate, and promote the food waste tracking program

  • Track, analyze, and recommend improvements for Post and Pre-Consumer Waste

  • Establish outlet for unused pre-consumer food portions

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Computer skills

  • Highly organized, Self-motivated and self-directed

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skill

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective equipment (PPE).
