Summary:
The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) has a vacancy for an Electronics Foreman, Correction to supervise and perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic systems and equipment at electronic systems and equipment. This announcement will be used for the South Boise Complex to include Idaho State Correctional Center (ISCC), Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI), South Boise Women's Correctional Center (SBWCC), South Idaho Correctional Institution (SICI) including the Pre-Release Center, Idaho Maximum Security Institution (IMSI), and Mountain View Transformation Center (MVTC). This is a working Electronics Foreman, Corrections position and subject to after hours and weekend call-backs.
Responsibilities:
Repair and maintain PC based controls for locking and surveillance systems
Install and maintain fire detection systems
Inspect, repair, install, and operate solid state and digital logic electronic systems and equipment including metal detection, perimeter surveillance, fence guard, intercom, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and devices, PABX, and CATV Systems
Interface circuitry between old and new electronic systems
Hire, provide on-the-job training, and assign work to offenders and evaluate performance
Assist in budget preparation for the electronics and tool room units
Maintain custody of offenders, conduct searches for weapons, tools, and contraband
Insure all hand and power tools are serviceable, properly checked-out, maintained, and returned by offenders and staff
Control of tools and keys
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed as a journeyman electrician in accordance with Title 54, Chapter 10, Idaho Code; OR possession of a Limited Energy Electrical License in accordance with IDAPA Rule 07.01.04
Good knowledge of PC and digital electronic logic systems used in security systems. Typically gained by 20 hours of training specifically addressing the aspects above AND at least one year of work experience performing related task. (Manufacturer certification in each, CCTV, PC/PLC security, or PABX systems)
Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically, gained by completion of a class or seminar (of more than 1 day) specifically covering supervisory practices or the elements of supervision; OR completion of a college-level personnel related course covering supervisory practices; OR lead work experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff (such experience on a fill-in basis is non-qualifying unless for a period equivalent to a minimum of three months or more - they do not have to be consecutive months).
Some knowledge of computer hardware and service-line installation and maintenance. Typically gained by formal training in the installation and maintenance of service lines for computer hardware such as in a vocational school OR at least six months experience performing this type of work under the direction of a qualified journey-level person.
Experience: installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and performing solid-state and digital electronic maintenance and repair; designing and interfacing electronics circuitry. Typically gained by at least two years of work experience performing work directly related to this which included a variety of electronic maintenance and repair and has given the candidate a broad background in maintenance and repair; AND which also addressed the design and interface of circuitry.
Desirable Qualifications:
Good knowledge of computer operating systems, imaging hard drives, and networking
Certified in CompTIA A+
