The objective of this role is the develop the primary packaging process across the portfolio of razors and blades with a focus on cartons, blisters, and bags. This role will serve as the primary support of projects that include developing product concepts, proving out feasibility, and readying concepts for transfer into feasibility phase. This role is expected to provide expertise and technical assistance to management and local manufacturing locations regarding the design of packaging with products, tooling, and process technology in mind.
Manage external suppliers and vendors in the development of new packaging and products to include brief development, cost determination, timing and budgeting.
Manage the technical and engineering aspects for the commercialization of new packaging as it relates to new products, alternative materials, product restages and cost reduction initiatives.
Develop and design packaging that uses the best combinations of existing components and materials.
Develop and prepare engineering standards and specifications to be implemented in North as well as potentially on a global basis.
Manage suppliers to develop and deliver models and prototypes suitable for customer presentations and packaging evaluations.
Determine conformance of packaging and/or products to federal and other standards/specifications.
Develop and prepare package material specifications, assembly instructions and BOMs.
Required Education, Skills and Experience
BS in Mechanical or Package Engineering, or equivalent degree. Preference for Package Engineering degree.
At least 3 years of experience in a similar role
Desirable Education, Skills and Experience
Proficient with CAD/CAM systems such as AutoCAD, Solid Works or ProE.
Knowledge of a wide variety of packaging components, properties, manufacturing processes and mold types desired
Knowledge of packaging equipment and process
Packaging experience preferred, ideally with consumer products companies.
Experience in the following areas is desired:
Dealing with packaging component suppliers.
Running overall development of new packaging structures from concept to manufacturing.
Knowledge of standard test methods.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
Good computer skills; proficiency with Word, Excel, e-mail, internet applications and electronic data document management systems.
Project Management Competency:
Ability to prioritize and organize workload on multiple programs of low-to-high complexity with a demonstrated ability to complete projects on time
Possess problem-solving skills and ability to work well under pressure
Ensure that engineering procedures are followed
Ability to manage assigned projects, monitoring the status of all elements affecting the outcome of the program
Clearly communicate technical and non-technical information via verbal presentation and in writing with management, team members and support personnel with minimal supervision
Proficiency in speaking Spanish is preferred
