The New Jewish Home Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor in Kittay House - Bronx, New York

The KITTAY House in the Bronx is seeking a full time Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor to join our team!

Job Summary: Oversees and coordinates all aspects of the Therapeutic Recreation program. Designs and Implements all programs and activities in accordance with the special needs of the population.

Reports To: Associate Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates all aspects of the program delivery in conjunction with Associate Director

  2. Maintains attendance.

  3. Reviews daily attendance; maintains contact with clients and caregivers of clients who are not attending.

4 Develops, Prepares and Delivers all programs and activities considering the age relatedness, interests, culture and skills of the registrants

5 Directs staff in tasks related to program delivery.

  1. Ensures receipt of petty cash, checks, appropriate set-up and transportation for all outings, special events and in-house performances; provides all receipts to finance for processing.

  2. Ensures recreation supplies are maintained within budget.

  3. Coordinates TR contact with clients re special events, trips, absences.

9.Communicates any areas of concern to Director.

  1. Prepares monthly calendar of events by 3rd week of month for following month.

  2. Prepares weekly activities schedule by Thursday for following week. Post activities on a daily basis on community bulletin board.

  3. Implements any new initiatives in program.

  4. Ensures activities and special programs are adequate and meet the needs for the population.

  5. Participate in team meetings.

  6. Contributes to the development, modification and implementation of program activities and service delivery.

  7. Orient and oversees volunteers, activities, time sheets.

  8. Trends concerns and discusses strategies for program improvement.

  9. Engages in marketing and networking initiatives for the program.

  10. Exhibit creative planning and development of programs. Develop groups at different levels of ability and interests.

  11. Run at least two groups a week.

  12. Uses tact and diplomacy in relating to staff, tenants, and maintain cooperative and teamwork attitude.

Job Qualifications:

  • MS in Therapeutic Recreation or related Health Field preferred

  • BS/BA in Therapeutic Recreation or similar field

Specialized Skills and Competencies:

  • 5 Years experience working with older and/or intellectually challenged adults

  • 2 Years supervisory experience to include oversight of Therapeutic Recreation program

Age Related Skills and Competencies:

· CTRS preferred but above experience can be considered

Physical Demands:

  • Able to push patients in wheelchairs

  • Able to walk for field trips/outings
