Applied Research Associates, Inc. Senior Test Engineer 1 in Kirtland AFB, New Mexico
Description
The Applied Research Test Technology Division (TTD) in Albuquerque, NM is looking for an Instrumentation Field Engineer to operate data acquisition systems (data bunkers) at Kirtland AFB and White Sands Missile Range. In this role, you will assist the Engineering and Scientific staff in performing the instrumentation of unique test articles and research platforms. This position is responsible for recording and interpreting sensor data, identifying out-of-tolerance and anomalous readings, and documenting findings in detailed reports associated with energetic materials and blast environments. This position will be client-facing and requires a customer-focused attitude while maintaining test objectives and data integrity. You will gain a deep understanding of defense research related to ordinance and energetics. In addition to your technical role, you will assist with program management, planning and budgeting, and status reporting.
Position Responsibilities:
The ability to interface with customers/executives and communicate effectively with key stakeholders, and subsequently manage team members towards meeting project objectives
Assist with engineering calculations, design drawings, preliminary cost estimates
Read and interpreted blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work or military experience
Be able to install, repair, and maintain general test equipment.
Be able to install, repair, and maintain equipment used as calibration standards.
Proficiency applying NIST metrology standards/traceability for calibration standards.
Diagnose errors or technical issues and identify appropriate solutions.
Possess critical thinking and collaborative skills.
Produce detailed and timely service reports.
Coordinate and maintain official logs for instrument calibration, ensuring that instruments have appropriate calibration certificates to support program test schedules.
Document processes and procedures
Ability to work in outdoor remote test environments such as the Chestnut range, PHETS, Stallion, etc. areas of KAFB and WSMR
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Be able to read schematic diagrams and support assembly of test setups and field testing.
Supervise layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of experimental electrical and/or mechanical test hardware.
Possess critical thinking skills and be able to work collaboratively.
Electrical/Electronic design experience
Install, verify, operate, maintain and troubleshoot:
Sensor transducers
Installing and setting up rack-mounted DAS and T&F equipment
Terminating coaxial, Ethernet, and fiber optic cables.
Oscilloscopes
Logic analyzers
CAD software
Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EPROM) programmers
Frequency counters
Digital Volt Meters (DVMs)
Network analyzers
Transient data recorders
Bit error rate testers
General Purpose Interface Bus (GPIB) diagnostic hardware and software
RS232 diagnostic hardware and software
Intel-based PCs
Mainframes and mini-frames
Adhere to company protocols and field procedures
Operate vehicles safely and use field automation systems
Collaborate with the technical team and share information
Typical Education/Experience:
Typically, four (4) or more years of related work experience or relevant military experience.
Relocation:
This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
Work Shift:
This position is salaried at 40 hours per week on a DoD Government facility. Requires work outdoors at all times of year at a moderate level of activity.
Summary pay range: $135,000 - $152,550
