Job Description

Albemarle is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic . This position will work onsite at our Kings Mountain, NC location to execute planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of site equipment.

What You Will Do

  • Maintenance Mechanic is able to work independently on all plant equipment for routine troubleshooting and repairs.

  • NCCER Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Certified Plus or demonstrated competency in the following knowledge and skills (in addition to skill requirements for a Support Mechanic):

  • Identify pumps, drivers, valves and their installation and troubleshooting practices

  • Create pipe fittings, perform cutting, treading and joining of piping components

  • Perform hydrostatic testing

  • Remove, troubleshoot, and install bearings and couplings

  • Lay out and install baseplates with proper alignment methods

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild basic rotating equipment using precision maintenance techniques (pumps and mechanical seals, motors, small gearboxes, etc.)

  • Perform Laser Alignment on rotating equipment

  • Ability to perform work safely and follow all Albemarle Safety Requirements

  • Continued demonstrated use of the tools and methods listed above

What You Bring

Required:

  • High School Diploma or 2-Year Technical Degree in mechanical field or equivalent (e.g. NCCER millwright or Industrial, Maintenance Mechanic certification)

  • Understand and follow PPE- respiratory equipment, and may be required to wear acid suits from time to time in elevated temperatures

  • Experience with safe in-plant maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment

  • Demonstrated ability to work in close tolerances, familiar with dial indicators, dial calipers, micrometers, and other exact measuring equipment

  • History of excellent quality results in daily work activities

  • Must be motivated, self-directed, and have the ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong verbal, written and electronic communication skills along with computer competency

I’d be great if you also had:

  • Advanced diagnostic skills to evaluate performance of machinery

  • Thorough understanding of how bearing condition, alignment, structural support, and piping stress affect equipment MTBF

  • An understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance procedures

  • Working knowledge of the purpose and installation of mechanical seals

  • Working knowledge of lubrication best practices

  • Possess strong communication skills for interaction with all chemical plant employees. Ability to receive verbal and written direction including plant safety rules, policies and procedures and implement without direct supervision.

Physical requirements: Lifting up to 50 lbs., frequent walking, bending, stooping, balancing, ascending, and descending ladders, operating various mobile equipment, pulling, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Requires handling tools and equipment necessary to perform above listed tasks.

Environmental Conditions : Exposure to chemical plant manufacturing facilities. Must work both outside and inside and often in inclement weather conditions. Frequent exposure to noise and vibration. Must be able to distinguish emergency and other alarms and respond according to prescribe procedures.
