Diabetes Care Kilkenny

Our new manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, opening in 2024, reflects the growing demand for Abbott's global Diabetes Care products. The facility will be a centre for world-class engineering, quality, medical device manufacturing, and other science-based professionals to produce life-changing technologies, including the FreeStyle Libre 3, a system that automatically delivers real-time, up-to-the-minute glucose readings, with the smallest and thinnest wearable glucose sensor that provides unsurpassed 14-day accuracy and optional glucose alarms directly to smartphones. This enables people with diabetes to live the best and fullest lives they can.

As an Occupational Health Nurse, you will contribute to the health and wellbeing of the employees of Abbott Diabetes Care, Kilkenny. Championing health and wellbeing of employees. Through the effective implementation of Occupational Health programmes whilst providing exceptional care in an environment where quality, respect, caring, and compassion are at the centre of all we do. You will work closely with the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, wider Abbott Management, and the Occupational Health Physician to put in place a first-class Occupational Health service that meets the needs of Abbott Diabetes Care, Kilkenny. Be a champion for the health and wellbeing of employees

Co-ordinate the First Aid & AED programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Professional Health Resource for the site management in planning and maintaining initiatives and programs that meet specific objectives and objectives.

  • Implement an electronic occupational health system from its inception.

  • Take responsibility for the overall functioning of Occupational Health on site.

  • Complete medical monitoring in accordance with the national and corporate requirements.

  • Provide a service for the medical care of accidents and illnesses at work.

  • Provide assistance to both supervisors and employees with return-to-work issues, including work restrictions, modified scheduling, and job accommodations.

  • Engages in workplace walkthroughs/assessments and exposure response.

  • Maintains and safeguards the confidentiality of medical health information.

  • Participates in the development of related policies, procedures, and work instructions.

  • Correspond with third parties, including Corporate team and contractors, providing professional reporting and timely submissions regarding site updates when necessary.

  • Spearhead site inspections as required.

  • Ensure that employees are aware of work-related issues when appropriate.

  • Work with HR and management to ensure absenteeism through illness or injury is managed effectively.

  • Perform risk assessments, including physical and psychosocial factors.

  • Support Global OHS with examining OH documents and procedures as required.

  • Partner with EHS to ensure medical surveillance is correctly allocated.

  • Ensure that OH is provided with IH monitoring results.

  • Act as company representative for employees Health Insurance Scheme with regard to health and well-being initiatives, mini medicals, annual flu vaccinations etc.

  • Utilize key elements of the EHS strategy to define the annual EHS goals and objectives, manage quarterly assessments of such objectives and drive necessary action.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with up-to-date NMBI registration and hold a recognised Occupational Health qualification.

  • At least 3 years of experience in an occupational health setting.

  • Experience with Occupational Health practices, policies, and procedures, return to work, absence management and immunisations.Competent in utilizing IT programs and databases.

  • Ability to analyse and report information.

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development to maintain registration.

  • Team player with ability to collaborate effectively.

  • Self-starter with ability to work on their own initiative.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.
