Kilgore College Liaison - Campus Life in Kilgore, Texas

Job Summary

The Campus Life Liaison is a professional member of the Residence and Student Life staff within the Public Safety and Risk Management Division. The Campus Life Specialist is responsible for all administrative, educational, and supervisory tasks of assigned residence hall(s), student activities, resident safety and security, and student success. While reporting directly to the Residence and Student Life Coordinator, the Campus Life Specialist also has significant interaction and responsibility with all functional areas of housing and student life operations. The Campus Life Specialist supervises Resident Assistants in the residence communities. Campus Life Specialist participate in the development of educational, social and personal growth programs, group advising, promoting the safety and welfare of all residents, and individual counseling. This is a live-in, twelve-month position.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Student Life:

     

  • Promotes, organizes, and coordinates student related activities, functions, and campus special events

  • Promotes, organizes, schedules, and supervises student intramural/recreational programs; or

  • Promotes and supports campus clubs and organizations; maintaining contact with all clubs and organizations, including advisors.

  •  Coordinates, prepares, and disseminates publications related to student activities including an up-to-date calendar of activities and events.

  • Coordinates campus volunteer programs in which student organizations sponsor and/or participate.

  • Residence Life:

     

  • Directs, promotes and oversees residence life programming for assigned hall.

  • Trains, supervises and evaluates residence hall staff.

  • Interprets and explains college and departmental policies and procedures related to residence life to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

  • Supervises the facility’s resident council.

  • Responsible for the overall operation of residence halls and its contents (furniture, computers, TV’s, etc.)

  • Coordinates summer camp programs.

  • Collects and maintains data regarding the general operation of residence halls and residence life programs.

  • Develops, maintains and enforces departmental policies and procedures.  Issues citations as needed.

  • Oversees the move in and move out function of their residence facility.

  • Provides basic maintenance on small projects.

  • Monitor the food quality and service of the campus dining services; provide feedback to the Coordinator.

  • Keeps records related to health and safety inspections, intentional conversations, parent contact, and incident reports.

  • Builds trust and positive relationships with their student residents to foster their academic and personal growth.

  • Actively listen to students and identify processes that creates pathways to their success.

  • Engage students in educational planning activities to help guide them to achieve their educational goals.

  • Empower students to identify and effectively communicate with faculty/staff and student services and become connected to campus resources.

  • Safety:

     

  • Performs health, safety, and maintenance checks on their assigned residence hall on a regular basis.

  • Ensures the operation and maintenance of proper safety program in the residence hall.

  • Follows all safety and security policies and procedures consistently.

  • Ensures that the correct entry control processes are followed consistently.

  • Document all safety/security incidents accurately and timely.

  • Assist and diffuse potential volatile situations.

  • Ensuring the environment remains safe and secure by monitoring through all available resources.

    Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s Degree with residence life or similar experience.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities are required.

  • The incumbent will also be required to live in the residence hall 12 months per year.

  • Preferred: Student affairs experience.

  • Preferred:  Previous graduate or professional work experience in residence life.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is $41,505

    Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.
