Kilgore College Athletic Trainer & Assistant Professor Kinesiology in Kilgore, Texas

Position summary:

The instructor is responsible for student learning in his/her discipline of expertise.  The instructor also assists the instructional leader and other administrative personnel in activities designed to enhance the effectiveness of the instructional process and to support the mission of the College.

 

Position responsibilities:

  • Teach Athletic Training courses during the academic year.

  • Develop course syllabi, create exams/quizzes, homework assignments, and grading.

  • Develop and teach hybrid or blended classes.

  • Be able to provide courses on Blackboard and use instructional technology in the classroom.

  • Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: participation in academic advising, registration, and regular office hours. It is expected that all instructors participate in committee work, professional development activities, and student recruitment/retention activities.

  • Direct oversight of daily operations of all athletic training facilities.

  • Direct supervision and evaluation of athletic training staff and student athletic trainers.

  • Develop and manage emergency action planning.

  • Work with Sports Medicine team physicians to deliver care to student athletes.

  • Coordinating and participating in pre-season physicals for all student athletes.

  • Travels with teams as needed.

  • Maintains inventory of training supplies. Prepare orders for supplies as needed.

  • Maintain medical records & manage insurance claim processing for student-athlete injuries.

  • Providing athletic training services for all Kilgore College athletics.

  • Providing licensed athletic training service for all Kilgore College hosted athletic events as needed.

  • Refers student-athletes for physician care as needed.

  • Oversee the Student Athletic Training Program.

  • Recruit Student Athletic Trainers.

  • Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Department Chair.

    Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, or related field.

  • Board of Certification (BOC certification), possess or be eligible for athletic training licensure in the state of Texas.

  • Current CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers or Professional Rescuers.

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a college athletic trainer and/or instructor and a commitment to excellence in teaching are preferred.  

  • Preference will be given to applicants with three or more years of athletic training experience.

  • Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the college liability policy.

  • Must be able to drive an automobile and 15-passenger van.

  • Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, Sit, use hands and fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, taste or smell.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

    Safety:

    Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

  • Tuition scholarships are for the employee and dependent children. 

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $58,766 for a master’s degree to $68,169 for a doctorate. Additional compensation is calculated based on years of experience in the field. Overload and summer classes are paid separately. A stipend of $10,500 is also provided.

    Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program. As a result, employees/retirees of the college are subject to the federal Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and possibly the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws.
