STE Hackney Supervisor 1st Shift - STE Hackney in Kidron, Ohio

JOB SUMMARY: Directs and coordinates, through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with production of company products utilizing knowledge of product technology, production methods and procedures and capabilities of machines and equipment.  Ensures that a quality product is produced in the most efficient manner observing and preserving all safety policies and procedures. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Works with plant management and other supervisory staff to assign, direct, review and monitor work of supervised staff to maximize productivity in the plant.
  2. Point person working with support functions (scheduling, materials, engineering, QC, Safety/HR) to ensure production targets are achieved.
  3. Ensures proper procedures are in place and being followed for production efficiency, quality of product, employee safety and state and federal guidelines.
  4. Interpret shop orders and drawings in order to instruct co-workers.
  5. Coordinates production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
  6. Provide encouragement and, when necessary, correction to workers incorrectly, unsafe or unproductively performing work.
  7. Recommends improvements to production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
  8. Generate ideas to improve the product and the process and encourage others to do so.
  9. Help to train new workers to the department.
  10. Collaborates with other supervisors to optimize the utilization of Team Coordinators and Team Leaders.
  11. Identify problems and potential problems and help to solve them quickly and effectively when they arise.
  12. Recognize talents and areas needing improvement in supervisory staff. Ensure developmental needs are communicated to HR department.  Coach supervisors in all areas concerning production and personnel management. 
  13. Inspect products in the department to ensure quality standards are being met and rework will not be required later.
  14. Promote the 5 S's concept of order and housekeeping.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum 10 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Experience with manufacturing of specialty vehicles, trailers, etc., helpful.
  3. Excellent attendance record required. Must have and be able to maintain an average of less than 6 points. Must be willing and able to work overtime.
  4. Good working knowledge of all phases of department processes, standards, procedures, and equipment.
  5. History of exceptional work performance.
  6. Proficient use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel etc.)
  7. Prefer Project Management tools/software experience.
  8. Self-starter that works well under minimum supervision.
  9. Interest in and ability to lead employees and delegate work assignments.
  10. Ability to conceptualize workflow and make necessary adjustments mid-stream.
  11. A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  12. Understands the concept and importance of quality controls and continuous improvement processes.
  13. Exceptional ability to pre-plan and identify potential issues before they arise.
  14. Ability to perform short- and long-range planning. (5 Why's, wishbone analysis)
  15. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills & project and program management skills.
  16. Quality oriented.
  17. Must be a team player.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical fitness to perform all job functions of the designated work area, including any and all maintenance and heavy lifting assignments. This includes standing, small tool use, full arm and leg range of motion, bending, lifting, walking, crouching for greatest part of shift.
