Ward Cove Dock Group Mechanic in Ketchikan, Alaska

Job Summary: The Mechanic will inspect, service, and maintain a diesel and gas-powered vehicle fleet. As a lead mechanic, this position is responsible forinspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance on thefleet to keep them operating safely.Knowledge of small engine and outboard motor maintenance a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regularly scheduled inspections and maintenance on all company vehicles
  • Document and maintain accurate records of maintenance, work orders, driver inspection reports, parts orders and DOT inspections
  • Supply and maintain shop facilities, equipment, and software
  • Purchase inventory and track parts
  • Research repair solutions using industry software solutions and working with industry experts
  • Repair and overhaul engines, transmissions, motors, and equipment components as required
  • Maintain Federal, State, and local safety standards
  • Maintain positive communication with other employees as well as service vendors, and partners
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to maintain a safe working environment and follow safety procedures
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations as related to vehicle inspections and repairs
  • Recognize and report defects or malfunctions, upon inspection
  • Read and understand vehicle maintenance and repair codes and instructions on the computer
  • Knowledge and use of hand and power tools
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Work closely with others, solving the issues or providing suggestion for solutions
  • Must provide the required tools upon employment
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations for roadside assistance

Education and Experience:

  • Certificate or degree in diesel mechanics OR equivalent experience
  • At least two years related experience
  • Commercial Drivers License Class A or B preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, crawling and walking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
