Job Description:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent years of related work experience, Master’s degree preferred

Work Experiences:

  • 5+ years relevant business-related work experience in the field of international logistics required

  • 5+ years’ experience in import logistics and global import operations required

  • 3 year of experience supervising or managing a team

  • 3 year of experience with freight forwarder origin management, foreign and US ports, or ocean carrier services.

  • Retail industry experience preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and proactively performance manage a team of multiple direct reports

  • Ability to lead team managing global logistics operations for Academy’s global supply chain

  • Knowledge of U.S. import regulations and customs compliance

  • Working knowledge of logistics system technology for import orders

  • Strong customer orientation and negotiating skills

  • Technical skills including logistics metrics and key performance indicators

  • Problem solving and strong analytical capabilities including but not limited to MS Excel

  • Ability to meet deadlines in a frequently changing and fast-paced work environment

  • Computer - PC literate with a working knowledge MS Office, specifically MS Excel and PowerPoint Freight Forwarders systems, and logistics metrics

  • Communication – effective listening, speaking, writing and executive level presentation skills

Responsibilities:

  • Leads team responsible for the transportation of foreign goods to be received by Academy’s Distribution Centers

  • Lead a team of at least four team members and a manage multiple 3PL relationships

  • Lead the development of overall import strategy for Academy’s Global Imports team.

  • Responsible for developing and enforcing standard operating procedures to comply with foreign country regulations related to shipments and transportation with ocean carriers, freight forwarders, and truckers.

  • Proactively identify barriers to success and work cross functionally to address issues while effectively communicating plans and progress across the organization

  • Lead to the design, mapping, and assessment of supply chain risk / risk management for internal controls relating to import logistics, global movement of freight, freight forwarder origin management, foreign and US ports, and ocean carrier services

  • Builds relationships with ocean carriers and other service providers and helps resolve any freight problems that may arise; conducts annual RFQ process for ocean freight services

  • Lead negotiations of annual ocean freight contracts via partnership with Procurement Team

  • Ensures all daily, weekly, and monthly reports are completed accurately and on time

  • Address any issues that delay the clearance of goods through the import entry process, in relation to import logistics in conjunction with the manager of Customs Compliance

  • Partner with the manager of Customs Compliance to ensure that service providers meet the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) minimum security criteria.

  • Determines metrics for critical events in order management flow.

  • Ensures that all import containers are picked up, delivered, and empty returned timely.

  • Maintains knowledge of ocean freight tariffs and contracts, bunker fuel charges, etc. for successful negotiations with ocean carriers and service providers

  • Maintains excellent customer service relationships through consistent and effective communication with corporate partners, outside vendors, carriers and internal D.C. team members and managers.

  • Maintain internal control documentation, effectively perform assigned internal controls, remediate internal control exceptions, and response to internal and external audit requests

  • Responsibilities may change; team member may be required to perform other duties as assigned
