American Express looking for a Data Engineer, you will play a role as a versatile database engineer with a strong background and practical experience with architecting, designing, and developing enterprise-grade database solutions for application developers utilizing Agile and DevOps methodology. Also, you will have opportunity to implement database infrastructure automation across the full spectrum of database development lifecycle at American Express, thereby driving agility, improved quality, and efficiencies in database software development and operations across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with DBaaS Engineering (DBE) team to define, frame and capture business needs

• Participate in the infrastructure design and selection process

• Oversee the diagnosis and correction of infrastructure problems

• Provide internal analysis and support to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance

• Conduct DBaaS infrastructure performance and security assessments

• Define processes, documentation, and engineering diagrams for technical and operations support

• Prioritize, complete, and oversee projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines

• Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reportedonand resolved in a timely manner

• Responsible for the quality of deliverables in terms of the technical design, implementation, testing and adherence to technical compliance standards.

• Develop tools that automate database processes, such as database provisioning enabling database engineers and developers to do more self service

• Find opportunities to adopt innovative technologies.

Scope of Impact/Influence

• Responsible for the DBaaS infrastructure platform and supporting technology

• Leads the design, build, enhancement, and integration of infrastructure with AET

• Plays an integral role in building and enhancing infrastructure in terms of robustness, scalability, availability, and efficiency

• Leadership accountable for team completing assigned tasks and delivery of quality work

Education & Technology core competencies

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field required, advanced degree preferred.

• 3 years of database development experience in a professional environment and/or comparable experience.

• Hands-on experience handling operational tasks ofNosqLDatabases/supporting and maintaining the production-grade environment such as Couchbase, Cassandra, Mongo database upgrade/downgrade, capacity expansion, backup and recovery, performance tuning or anyOpen SourceTechnologies like Postgres , MySQL

• Monitor the performance and health of the DB servers and troubleshoot DB system failures.

• Good to have experience in Automation using Ansible for Infrastructure use cases like Upgrade , Patchingetc

• Practical experience with Data Architecture, translate business data requirements into data models (Conceptual, logical, physical) and using data modeling tools.

• Extensive experience in Linux based DB performance monitoring by using system tools, security setup, troubleshooting and performance tuning as necessary to ensure optimum performance, patching of Linux based DB servers on regular schedule

• Experience in one of the public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, and Azure preferred.

• Supporting and maintaining the logging, messaging, automation tools like Splunk, Grafana, Jenkins

• Eager to learn new technologies in short time span.

• Experience in change management, Incident management, RFC, Problem management & RCA
