Job Description:

Job Title: Transportation Supervisor

Department: Bakery

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function: Responsible for leading and overseeing transportation operations. Will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and organized flow of materials through the dock area, maintaining high levels of safety, accuracy, and efficiency.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Regional Bakery Plant Manager

Positions that Report to you: Drivers

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for driver needs.

  • Monitors tractor diagnostics including speed percentages, idle percentages and harsh events.

  • Assists with coaching on incidents and disciplinary actions.

  • Monitors electronic logging device.

  • Obtains driver incident reports in a timely fashion.

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of DOT pre and post trip inspections.

  • Collaborates with management to optimize transportation routes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

  • Coordinates vehicle maintenance and inspections including picking up and dropping off vehicles for service maintenance.

  • Communicates vehicle needs to preventative maintenance program.

  • Assists with preparing/loading pallets and cabinets for delivery ensuring proper securement.

  • Provides monthly safety handouts to drivers.

  • Provides daily updates to management.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the Bakery when needed.

  • May cover routes as last alternative and pick up stranded drivers.

  • Attends quarterly driver meetings and presents when necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle.

  • Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with secondary education or 4-year degree preferred. Training in logistics or distribution is beneficial.

Supervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports): Drivers

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction

  • Must be physically able to perform medium work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 50 pounds, with frequent standing, walking, and lifting/carrying of objects of no more than 25 pounds

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions

  • Must be physically able to enter and exit a delivery vehicle many times a day, traverse staircases and other rough terrain to reach delivery destination

Working Conditions:

This position is frequently exposed to noise, occasionally exposed to temperature extremes and equipment movement hazards, and continually exposed to the fast-paced work environment and pressure to meet deadlines.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Delivery vehicle, pallet jack, pallet wrapper, standard office equipment including telephone, 10-key calculator, copier, PC with word processing and spreadsheet software.

Financial Responsibility:Responsible for payments received for delivery of products when applicable

Contacts:Has daily contact with stores, suppliers/vendors, and the general public.

Confidentiality:

Has access to confidential information including inventory information, item costs, and margins.
