Job Description

The Patient Access Coordinator is a pre-supervisory level and performs all Patient Access Services functions. Assists in the management of the operations and staff of the Patient Access functional areas. Prioritizes and coordinates patient flow in functional areas. Ensures smooth patient flow to service delivery areas. Assists in the development of policies and procedures for patient information, office management, patient flow, patient registration, and patient check-in processes. Performs process quality assurance and process improvement activities. Maintains excellent working relationships with community providers and their staff. A Patient Access Lead/Coordinator is highly skilled and works at a fully cross-functional level.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative II or Patient Access Scheduling Representative II.

  • Three years’ experience with patient contact, insurance, or hospital finance Clear, effective communication skills required to interview patients and families, to gather and exchange information with other hospital staff members, physicians, third party payors and resource persons.

  • Concise written communication skills and keyboarding skills required.

  • Detail oriented Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical or business account information, financial, and legal documents.

  • Must have the ability to respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints from guests, regulatory agencies, staff, and members of the community.

  • Must possess the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Preferred:

  1. Experience with medical insurance verification and authorizations

  2. Knowledge of basic medical terminology

  3. Ability to speak Spanish
