Burns & McDonnell’s Business & Technology Solution’s Global Practice is seeking a Technical Services Director in the Operational Technology space to establish the strategy and execution for our Operational Technology service offerings and client engagements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate how our solutions address customer pain points, provide value to our customers and drive sales through strong relationships and confidence in our offerings. The selected candidate will join The Enterprise System & Integration team, which is focused on providing Enterprise Solution Services delivering high value to our clients through a variety of leading technologies, DevOps methods and practice disciplines.

You will establish, communicate and maintain accountability for the service delivery strategy based on industry trends to position 1898 & Co to successfully secure and execute client engagements. The primary mission for the Director is to foster a culture where technical excellence is recognized and valued for the importance it brings to our organization. The role will focus on supporting the needs of our Utility clients through Grid Modernization efforts focused on Operational Technologies. This includes field deployments for solutions such as Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), Solar and Battery Deployments and Digital or IEC-61850 enabled Substations.

Job Functions:

  • Set direction by developing annual goals to improve business within the department and/or business line.

  • Provide direction and leadership for department and/or business line related teams.

  • Foster a thought leadership mentality at all levels and roles within department.

  • Identify and communicate industry trends for business line.

  • Partner with business development counterparts to develop strategic industry engagement plans to support targeted projects and leadership differentiation.

  • Proactively identify knowledge and experience gaps in ability to meet industry direction and direct the strategic hiring of key staff to build our resume as a company and/or develop existing talent.

  • Identify opportunities to continually improve technical and strategic execution strategies and generate vision and direction to implement changes.

  • Direct internal training for department and/or business line, collaborating with management to ensure and maintain training consistency, effectiveness, and vision.

  • Develop and implement sales tools and collateral.

  • Present at industry conferences and enable others.

  • Participate in sales and marketing for critical pursuits.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.

  • Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.

  • Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field from an accredited program and 13 years of relevant experience or applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

  • Demonstrated technical ability internally and externally.

  • Proven leadership in developing and implementing vision that has brought positive impact.

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering OT projects in a consulting capacity within the electric utility industry is preferred.

  • Understanding of Electricity Power flow in Distribution applications usage in North American utilities is preferred.

  • Knowledge of OT service management frameworks, standards, and best practices, such as NERC/CIP, ITIL, ISO 20000, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, or ISA/IEC 62443 is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of operational technology (OT) systems, including industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA, PLCs, and IoT devices is preferred.

  • Experience with OT cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance requirements is preferred.

  • Ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Proven collaboration, facilitation, and organization problem-solving skills in previous roles.

  • Excellent business acumen with proven success managing consulting engagements.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly and efficiently interpret large data sets.

  • Ability to uncover customer needs, develop recommendations and deliver them persuasively.

  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong understanding of financial concepts.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
