Over the coming year, we plan to significantly accelerate this growth initiative which we believe has the potential to meaningfully increase the overall growth rate of Block. Due to the confidential nature of this initiative, specific details will be shared with qualified candidates.

The Director of this Business Initiative will help lead the next phase of growth for this key Block growth driver and steer us on the path to deliver hundreds of millions of dollars of growth through 2030. This highly visible role will report to the Chief Strategy and Small Business Officer and provide exposure to a wide range of senior business and functional leaders. This role is also closely aligned with our Global Consumer Tax Team and provides the opportunity to work on one of the key growth initiatives for our future Block Horizons strategy.

For the right individual, this is an opportunity to have a big impact on the overall trajectory of Block.

Responsibilities…

  • Provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and execution of this business initiative

  • Define and implement the operating model required to scale up

  • Along with the Chief Strategy and Small Business officer, be the enterprise-wide advocate for this effort across Block. Be as comfortable providing updates to the Senior Leadership team as you are working with office leaders and tax pros to retain and grow our customer base for this focus area

  • Leverage data, analytics, and intuition to develop the go-to-market strategy and course correct as needed to ensure sustained business growth

  • Influence cross-functionally with key leaders across the organization to ensure seamless execution of the plan

  • Take the lead on the annual planning and prioritization process for this business initiative

  • Act as a true owner of the business 365 days a year and constantly be looking for ways to drive further growth and/or improve our unit economics

  • Recruit and develop top talent

What you'll bring to the team... :

  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial self-starter who is comfortable creating structure and forming a creative plan in ambiguous circumstances

  • Leader willing to get your hands dirty and delve into the operational details of the business while driving an implementation plan that retains customers and grows the business

  • Fluency with using data and analytics in every facet of the business to uncover new insights to accelerate growth and improve decision making

  • A “can do” person with a proven track record of moving at speed and prioritizing progress over perfection. Ability to bring the organization along with you as you implement new ideas

  • Very strong focus on commercial outcomes and delivering against operational milestones

  • Ability to become the enterprise-wide advocate for this I strategic initiative and navigate a matrixed organization to deliver against audacious goals

  • Leader with strong “EQ” who can build bridges with stakeholders and deliver change management while keeping them excited about being part of the Block family

  • Strong people leader who inspires confidence and attracts and develops top talent and creates a fun environment to work in

  • Familiarity with Block’s systems as well as experience working with field leaders would be a bonus

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related area

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience across a variety of industries and/or functions

Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan.
