Kanaan Communications, LLC Fiber Splicer Trainee Kansas City, Missouri
Our Fiber Splicer Trainee will learn and assist in the preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables within a telecommunications system. This entry-level role involves gaining knowledge of telecommunications network structures, fiber optic cables, splicing enclosures, and their functionalities. The trainee will be trained to use OTDR and fusion splicing equipment, read fiber matrices, interpret and analyze data, and identify and troubleshoot problems. The position requires a willingness to learn, attention to detail, and the ability to work under the guidance of experienced professionals.
What you'll do as a Fiber Splicer Trainee:
Install, disconnect, reconnect, add, change, and troubleshoot fiber optic internet, and telephone based on guidelines
Install, setup and configure all equipment
Identify and try to remedy sources of customer-perceived issues
Review all requested services with the customer in order to ensure understanding and agreement
Educate the customer regarding product and service usage
Clean, maintain, and stock vehicle and equipment
Work overtime, travel, and perform on-call/afterhours responsibilities as needed
Perform work in all weather conditions
What you’ll need
To be 18 years of age or older
Authorization to work in the United States for this company
High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
Valid State driver's license (cannot be considered Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
Must be able to pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical card
Preferred: 6 months of splicing experience or one year of experience in the telecommunications industry
Additional qualifications
Certified pole climber or capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber, is preferred
Knowledge of telecommunications network structure
Physical abilities & exposures
Routinely: operate vehicle and heavy machinery, squeeze, fine hand motion, work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs and lift greater than 55 pounds
Occasionally: work in confined spaces, use ladder and gaffs for climbing poles, keyboard and mouse
