Burns & McDonnell Assistant Hydrogeologist - Environmental Services (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

The Assistant Hydrogeologist will support multi-disciplinary teams working on groundwater flow, contaminant transport, water resources investigations and water management problems for multiple clients in the fields of industrial/commercial, oil and gas, energy, and municipal, State, and Federal Governments. This position will assist with technical issues on projects in a variety of locations.

What you will do:

  • Assist in the writing of work plans for evaluating groundwater and groundwater resources.

  • Assist in preparing and performing investigations of unsaturated (vadose zone) and saturated groundwater flow, surface water flow and contaminant transport including installation of borings and wells, and generating of field reports such as geologic and hydrogeologic logs,

  • Assist in groundwater flow, well and well field analysis and design.

  • Assist with the characterization of flow and transport of contaminants in groundwater and surface water.

  • Assist in generating vadose zone and groundwater models and 3D hydrogeological visualization for groundwater projects.

  • Assist in the design and field data collection activities for hydrogeologic testing such as slug testing, pumping tests, tracer tests, and transducer studies, and others.

  • Evaluate and analyze aquifer performance test data and hydraulic and water quality data using industry standard processes and procedures.

  • Assist with writing technical reports, technical specifications, and permit applications.

  • Compile technical data to be presented to leadership and clients.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology or a related field from an accredited program required. Required

  • Prior internship or experience related to hydrogeology Preferred

  • Basic knowledge of the regulatory agencies that govern groundwater resources.

  • Basic knowledge of geologic concepts including stratigraphy, geologic structure, groundwater occurrence and flow, and geochemistry.

  • Basic knowledge of methods used for collection and analysis of environmental and hydrogeologic data.

  • Basic knowledge of hydrologic and hydrogeologic assessment methods including aquifer testing.

  • Basic knowledge of field investigation techniques, including soil and groundwater sampling.

  • Basic knowledge of spreadsheet models and MODFLOW groundwater modeling package.

  • Strong technical skills, statistical knowledge and attention to detail.

  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information.

  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.

  • Valid driver's license Required
