Job Purpose Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for Adjunct faculty or Clinical Instructors to teach courses in the Respiratory Care program. There may be additional sections to be taught at any location including daytime, online, virtually and/or at area high schools. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an on-going basis due to increasing demand for courses in this subject area.

Position Description

  • Convene assigned clinical or class in accordance with college policy.
  • Use instructional methods that emphasize application, cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become independent learners with higher-order thinking skills.
  • Organize and explain content using methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences.
  • Assign and provide feedback for out-of-class work, monitor student progress.
  • Perform student and course assessment according to college requirements and in alignment with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Exam Detailed Content Outline.
  • Comply with standards, policies, and procedures of KCKCC, the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, and the clinical affiliates.
  • Complete all required orientations for the assigned clinical affiliates.
  • Attend required clinical instructor training's and meetings.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork in accordance with accreditation guidelines.
  • Maintain currency in health records and requirements as required for assigned clinical site.
  • Other duties as assigned to advance the program and institutional missions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices in respiratory care.
  • Knowledge of assessment of student learning in a clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of active learning instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing patients needing respiratory care across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrated skill in use of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to utilize various equipment and procedures in managing patients.
  • Ability to multitask to meet multiple demands.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population.
  • Ability to operate various computer and audiovisual equipment.

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education

  • Current or eligible for licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in both Kansas and Missouri.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two (2) years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Experience in a variety of settings, including critical care.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education

  • Experience as a preceptor or clinical instructor.
  • Experience as a classroom instructor.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

Physical Requirements Must be able to perform a two-person transfer of a dependent patient. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and occasionally push, pull, or lift items. Work Schedule Must be able to work two (2) consistent days/week with one day being Friday. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
