Position Summary:
The Digitization and Metadata Technician assists in supporting and maintaining the findability of materials in the A-State Research & Creativity Hub (ARCH), Library Catalog, and other library discovery systems. Reporting to the Metadata & Discovery Systems Librarian, the person holding this position will receive regular training to enhance existing skills and keep them current as technologies and procedures change. Duties include digitizing materials, including data sets and accompanying models, text, images, audio, and video content, and making digital objects accessible. Other duties include processing new resources and updating/maintaining library records for existing materials.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Digitize materials for inclusion in the institutional repository (ARCH), perform OCR (optical character recognition) to enable accurate and thorough full-text searching of scanned PDFs for uploading to ARCH.
Under the direction of the Metadata & Discovery Systems Librarian, work collaboratively with experienced library colleagues to implement metadata procedures and assist in metadata creation, entry, and quality control in the ARCH institutional repository.
Following best practices and local style guides, create and edit visual descriptions of images, PDF files, and digitized film clips to ensure accessibility for audiences with visual disabilities.
Review, edit, and approve object records in ARCH and assist with data import and/or normalization.
Following national and institutional cataloging standards, catalog physical library materials, including creating descriptive metadata and enhancing existing records.
Assist in updating procedures by improving or creating data entry guidelines, workflows, definitions, and training materials for cataloging and visual description of items in both the library catalog as well as the ARCH institutional repository.
Run scheduled and ad-hoc reports to analyze the usage of digital objects and physical items across multiple library platforms. Provide data entry, data clean-up, and data import/export support as assigned.
Support the Institutional Repository Librarian in marketing initiatives for the ARCH institutional repository.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of basic library procedures and practices, computers and technology, and their applications.
Ability to operate general office equipment, communicate both orally and in writing, read and follow instructions, move book carts, lift up to 20 pounds, and physically manipulate a variety of materials.

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma
Two (2) years of experience in a library environment
Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or parts of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee
