Summary About the Position: This job announcement is for an Electrician (MVO), WG-2805-11 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. This position will be located in Johnston, Iowa at the Saylorville Lake Project Office location. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain DoD Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities Perform diagnostic maintenance inspections, new installations, maintenance repairs, and part replacements. Perform major overhaul on all dam operating systems, machinery, electrical components, and related equipment at flood control reservoirs characterized by electrically operated gates and valves. Troubleshoot, repair and replace electrical pedestals for RV units. Make recommendations when major repairs are needed so that coordinated effort can take place relative to temporary repair, technical engineering review, procurement of replacement items and maintenance of pump station or dam control capability. Diagnose, lay out, install, test, maintain, and repair electrical systems, instruments apparatus, and equipment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician (MVO) without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common/complex preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical systems (circuits, instruments, meters, relays, gauges, carrier units, control systems, transformers, motors, generators, and switch gear apparatus). Experience with industrial motor control and troubleshooting. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally lifts and carries larger assemblies or complete units exceeding 50 pounds with assistance. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body in installing, repairing, operating, or testing equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, machinery recesses, outlet stilling basin walls, or on overhead structures; climbs ladders, scaffolding, and works from suspended stages. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during the day or night, subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water which is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high traffic and noise areas. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. PCS and Incentive Information: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
