JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Housekeeping

Department: Environmental Services

Supervisor: Director of Engineering and Environmental Services

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasant environment for

patients/residents, staff and visitors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Sweeps, mops, and washes floors.

2) Cleans and polishes floors using buffing machines, as directed.

3) Strips or scrubs and refinishes floors when assigned.

4) Vacuums and spot clean when assigned.

5) Polishes metal or other bright surfaces. Scours glass or enamel fixtures.

6) Cleans vertical and horizontal surfaces that collect dust.

7) Collects and transports refuse, cleans and relines refuse containers with plastic

bags.

8) Washes sinks and other plumbing fixtures and replaces disposable items such as

paper towels, soap, and toilet paper.

9) Dust, cleans, and polishes furniture, including beds.

10) Washes walls and ceiling as assigned.

11) Assists with moving furniture, beds, supplies, etc.

12) Washes glass windows and doors as assigned.

13) Monitor supplies.

14) Maintain a professional public image and attitude toward patients, visitors, and

staff always.

15) Maintain patient confidentiality.

16) Attend hospital meetings as appropriate.

17) Participate in continuing education programs as appropriate and available.

DEGREE OF LATITUDE

Works under the direct supervision of Director of Engineering and Environmental

Services. Follows established procedures and guidelines and verbal instructions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Requires some lifting of heavy items, stooping, and bending. Stand and walks most of

working day. Job may involve occasional exposure to infectious materials and hazardous

substances.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education

Some high school education. Preferably a high school diploma or GED.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations

None

Special Knowledge or Skills

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Previous housekeeping experience in an institutional setting.
