Job Description: We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Scientist to join our team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for benchmarking embedding models and reranking models used by our legal content search services (based on RAG & LLM). Additionally, the Data Scientist will fine-tune these models using LexisNexis datasets. This role requires a deep understanding of machine learning, natural language processing, and experience working in AWS. The Data Scientist will work closely with the French team and report to a manager based in France, while being located near the LexisNexis team responsible for adapting the product to the South African market.

Responsibilities

• Conduct benchmarking of embedding models and reranking models for legal content search services.

• Fine-tune models using LexisNexis datasets to improve performance and accuracy.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate models into production environments.

• Analyze and interpret complex data to provide actionable insights.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning and NLP technologies.

• Document processes, methodologies, and results for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.

• Proven experience in deep learning with PyTorch and Hugging Face, natural language processing, and model fine-tuning.

• Proficiency in programming languages in Python.

• Experience with AWS services and cloud-based machine learning workflows.

• Familiarity with embedding models and reranking algorithms.

• Experience with legal content or similar domain-specific data.

• Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques.

• Interest for the French language
