Description:

Responsible for formulation of new chemistries, including wet chemistry, basic analysis, and material property measurement.

Primary job duties and responsibilities:

With limited supervision, perform routine chemical operations as directed by protocols and work instructions

With limited supervision, perform routine materials testing (density, viscosity, pH, etc.)

Identify process improvement ideas and communicate opportunities. Assist in improving established procedures and implementing continuous improvement projects

Promptly and accurately record, calculate, and report results

Prepare solutions, clean glassware, dispose of solid/liquid waste and other duties to help in the overall operations of the laboratory

Communicate troubleshooting opportunities in processes

Identify and communicate operational issues of laboratory instruments and equipment

Observe good safety and housekeeping practices

Participate in lab/site safety programs and cross site initiatives

Knowledgeable of RCRA hazardous waste regulations, waste determinations, waste codes, and how to immediately communicate discovery of spills and leaks

Skill and Competency Requirements:

Experience in laboratory with wet chemistry techniques (weighing, mixing, etc.)

Good oral and written communication skills

Attention to detail and an ability to analyse outcomes against a standard

Ability to multitask and prioritize workload to optimize efficiency and productivity of the laboratory

Education:

BA/BS in Chemistry, Materials Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Preferable experiences:

Three or more years laboratory experience preferred

Experience with pH, density, viscosity, and other thermal and rheological testing equipment preferred

Experience with moderate scale up (gram to kilogram quantities) preferred

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel may be required
