Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Evaluation: Assess medical orders and interpret clinical data to optimize patient outcomes.

  • Equipment Management: Set up and operate devices like mechanical ventilators, gas administration systems, and aerosol generators. Ensure treatment parameters are met.

  • Emergency Response: Assist in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and respond to code situations.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate patient charts, demonstrate procedures to trainees, and supervise students during training.

  • Treatment Planning: Read prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and determine suitable inhalant methods.

  • Physiological Monitoring: Monitor vital signs, blood gases, and blood chemistry changes during therapy.

  • Therapeutic Procedures: Perform bronchopulmonary drainage, breathing exercises, and pulmonary function tests.

Respiratory Therapist, RRT Requirements:

  • Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program required

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required

  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation required

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required prior to expiration of temporary practice permit

  • Respiratory therapists who receive their CRT credential from the NBRC after July 1, 2002 are required to maintain certification under the NBRC requirements

Sr Respiratory Therapy, RRT Requirements:

  • Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program

  • In lieu of an Associates degree, must have 5 to 7 years of experience or have an NBRC Certification

  • Two (2) years of total respiratory care experience with a minimum of one (1) year in critical care

  • Must successfully complete one (1) approved project from the department's project list during each annual performance review period. Project approved within 3 months of hire

Respiratory Therapist, CRT Requirements:

  • Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program required OR students who have received a temporary license are permitted to begin employment with approval from the Human Resources department along with their official transcripts.

  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation required Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required prior to expiration of temporary practice permit.

  • Respiratory therapists who receive their CRT credential from the NBRC after July 1, 2002 are required to maintain certification under the NBRC requirements

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT)

  • Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP)

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
