Job Description:

The UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville (COM-Jax), Department of Surgery has an opening for a postdoctoral associate in qualitative and quantitative health sciences and women’s health. The associate will contribute to an NIH-funded grant with a multidisciplinary team of investigators focused on improving outcomes for all women with uterine fibroids and eliminating fibroid health disparities. The project will provide education on fibroid symptoms/management, identify barriers to care, and improve risk prediction models to identify women with fibroids earlier among various stakeholders. The associate will contribute

to all phases of this human-centric research project through data collection (focus groups, interviews, and surveys), data management, data analysis, recruitment, and leading/contributing to manuscripts related to the project. The associate may also work to develop culturally appropriate education and dissemination based on results of data collection and analysis. The post-doctoral associate is expected to possess good written and oral English language skills, to present research updates at project meetings, seminars, and

conferences, as well as assist in writing manuscripts related to the project.

Essential Functions:

• Search/navigate scientific literature to describe current status, evidence-based practices and

treatments, and risks and protective factors associated with fibroids

• Data collection: Develop focus group, interview, and/or survey instruments and protocols; Conduct focus groups, interviews, and/or surveys; etc.

• Data management: Ability to clean, code and store information to increase anonymity and

confidentiality

• Data analysis: this position will have a primary focus on qualitative data, such as focus group and interview transcripts, but may involve quantitative analysis as well using medical record data sets

• Lead/contribute to scientific writing to include but not limited to: manuscripts, conference

presentations, and dissemination of research results to various audiences and stakeholder groups

• Develop health education materials focused on women’s health

• Interact with research administrative departments/entities and collaborating institutions

• Analyze quantitative data

• Coordinate and/or lead study meetings

• Study recruitment

• Develop study protocols/procedures, including IRB

• Write and submit manuscripts for publication consideration in peer-reviewed journals

• Write and submit abstracts for presentation at academic and scientific conferences

Must be able to work collaboratively with Mayo Clinic and UF COM-Jax faculty and staff. Application of databases and software such as REDCap are needed to complete tasks that range from data cleaning and coding, data analysis, data management, manuscript preparations, editing, and resource management.

Ability to train research coordinators and community health workers on consenting eligible persons into research studies, and implement privacy procedures when recruiting potential participants identified from clinical- and community- based settings.

Ability to multi-task and independently function as part of a multi-faceted research team to employ stakeholder/community engagement research involving qualitative and quantitative methods engaging different stakeholders receiving (patients), delivering (healthcare providers), and establishing (administrators, insurance providers) practices in research focused on uterine fibroids.

The postdoctoral associate will be affiliated with the Center for Health Equity and Engagement Research (https://med.jax.ufl.edu/center-health-equity-engagement-research/) where Lori Bilello, PhD, and Fern J. Webb, PhD serve as co-directors.

Expected Salary:Salary commensurate with experience and education.

Minimum Requirements:This position requires a PhD degree in public health, health services research, epidemiology,

health communication, socio-behavioral research, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:Candidates should have a strong qualitative research background, including the ability to coordinate, facilitate/administer focus groups and interviews. Quantitative experience, including proficiency in statistical applications, is a plus. Candidates with a strong interest in conducting research focused on a) decreasing or eliminating health disparities among medically- and socially- vulnerable populations and/or b) improving healthcare delivery (i.e., from providers and within the medical system) to optimize healthcare outcomes of women with uterine fibroids are encouraged to apply.
