Consumers Energy Sr Product Mgr (EWR/Demand Response for Business Sectors) in JACKSON, Michigan

Location:

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid status of reporting to any Consumers Energy Service Center every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with home office flexibility on Wednesday and Friday.

We are looking for: Sr Product Manager (EWR/Demand Response for Business Sectors)

The Demand Side Management team is responsible for programs that provide new ways for customers to engage with their energy use. These include demand response and energy waste reduction. The team is composed of product managers who bring together facets from across the company to run the programs, including marketing, sales, engineering, electric supply, rates and finance. As part of this broader department, the Energy Waste Reduction (EWR, also called Energy Efficiency) Product Manager for C&I and SMB business sectors is at the forefront of developing programs that provide new ways for business customers to engage with their energy use while helping them save money – creating a cleaner energy future for Michigan.

The Sr Product Manager is responsible for developing and executing on a multi-year product strategy that achieves that aggressive corporate clean energy goals through implementation contractors and internal partners. This role creates and maintains a multiyear product roadmap, identifies, and implements strategies to maximize product performance. The Sr Product Manager is responsible for long term product viability, such as cost effectiveness, customer satisfaction, regulatory success, balancing internal and external interests. This role coordinates across multiple internal/external stakeholders and provides peer leadership and product knowledge to product management team.

  • Lead execution of product plans to deliver product results and achieve sector goals through implementation contractors & internal partners

  • Develop multiple product strategies and plans

  • Recognize opportunities for and participate in problem solving around program challenges and opportunities

  • Able to present and serve on boards, and/or policy committees, task forces, workgroups

  • Ability to balance multiple constraints to achieve business outcomes

  • Ability to achieve positive regulatory outcomes and deliver on filing requirements

  • Work with stakeholders to develop multiple product strategies and plans

  • Manage execution of product plans to deliver product results and achieve sector goals

  • Understands product performance and solves gaps

  • Co-design customer experiences for product

  • Coordinate product revisions through product refinement process (for revisions to existing categories)

  • Program design, implementation, management and coordination of demand response customer programs to deliver aggressive demand response goals.

  • Collaborate with internal business partners such as DSM Product Operations, Energy Supply, Rates, IT, Experience Design, Regulatory, Marketing

  • Write DR Reconciliation Case and ERC testimony, meet with MPSC Staff and other potential external stakeholders to discuss topics pertaining to program delivery

  • Positive internal ambassador with ability to present to leadership

  • High level of internal expertise regarding product criteria and goals

  • Skilled presenter and communicator; able to present and serve on boards and/or policy committees, task forces, work groups

  • Coaching skills; able to advise and coach more junior co-workers

  • Continuous improvement and problem solving ability with experience utilizing Lean methods and tools

  • Knowledge of regulatory and competitive environment

  • Able to negotiate contracts and/or commercial arrangements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related field with four (4) or more years of applicable experience

  • Experience managing products, projects or clean energy programs

  • In-depth knowledge of customer issues, energy processes, and end-use technologies

Preferred skills:

  • Product Management Certification

  • Experience with the successful development and implementation of comprehensive business plans including a business environment review, target market assessment and detailed delivery strategies and tactics

  • Strong interpersonal communications skills with the ability to assemble and lead cross- functional internal and external teams in the successful completion of major projects are essential

  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to develop and evaluate complex engineering alternatives/financial scenarios as well as implement them

  • Exposure to marketing methods and customer communication and go-to market plans

  • Customer-centric innovation and product development experience

In this role, you will:

  • Strategy: Create and maintain a multi-year product roadmap with priorities and feature sets that account for product, segment and sector strategies, market trends, regulatory and legislative dynamics, company goals, etc. Ensure all internal/external stakeholders have clear alignment on the product vision, positioning, product strategy, etc. Create and implement strategies to maximize product effectiveness throughout the engagement funnel and across customer journeys. Continuously improve and expand product/service performance using multiple sources of customer feedback, product and competitive analysis, rapid iteration and testing methodologies, etc.

  • Product Lifecycle Management: Drive product goals, including financial profit/loss, experience journeys, channel performance and marketing campaign effectiveness performance. Manage week to week product operations including partner management, IT functions, experience design work and marketing/sales activities. Develop and implement product objectives (e.g. MW, MWh and MCF targets), tracking performance monthly and weekly. Manage evaluation and measurement of product demand, customer implications and energy impacts.

  • Customer Experience: Promote customer centricity, ensuring that short term benefits and “nice to have” features do not distract from long-term success in a competitive marketplace. Ensure modern digital strategy and experience best practices through product engagement and lifecycle. Design customer experiences for product such as awareness, evaluation, decision, enrollment via website and phone channels, delivery and retention.

  • Regulatory: Understand the competitive and regulatory environment, navigating and influencing the strengths of each to maximize value delivery to target customers and to the Company. Collaborate on regulatory filings in support of product targets, meet with regulators to discuss topics pertaining to program delivery

  • Develop and execute on multi-year product strategy, taking into account internal priorities, and external forces, trends and emerging technologies. Integrate and drive product goals, including financial profit/loss; long term capital, operating budget and resource financial planning; experience journeys; channel performance; and marketing campaign effectiveness performance. Coordinate across internal/external stakeholders to gain clear alignment on the product vision, positioning, and product strategy.

  • Accountable for assigned program success. Lead the design, implementation, management and coordination of customer programs to deliver upon clean energy, customer experience and financial goals. Engage in contractual agreements and procurement process for products. Provide peer leadership and coaching of associate and product managers.

  • Create and implement operational plans to maximize product effectiveness and continuously improve and expand product/service performance using multiple sources of customer feedback, product and competitive analysis, rapid iteration and testing.

  • Lead cross functional working groups, problem solving and process improvement activities for identified product gaps and opportunities. Resolve complimentary and competing product conflict and priorities with best interest of the customer and enterprise in mind.

  • Lead testimony development and audit/discovery responses for regulatory filings, meet with external regulatory stakeholders/intervenors. Maintain current knowledge of regulatory and competitive environment impacting product strategy.

  • Lead solutions for maximizing cost effectiveness to ensure product profitability and enterprise revenue/cost reduction goals. Prepare and present product strategy, plans, metrics, results, etc... to cross functional stakeholders and senior level leaders.

  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary.
