The Technical Services Coordinator supports education and research in the department by coordinating the operation and maintenance of the department's maker space and computer lab. Operate and maintain equipment in both spaces, instructing faculty and students on safe utilization of equipment and facilities. Coordinate work with other campus facilities as needed. Recruit, train, and supervise student workers including approving timecards. Work with department faculty to schedule projects in support of coursework. Troubleshoot technical issues, escalating problems to department management, CALS IT, equipment vendors, or other service providers as needed. Perform or oversee maintenance of equipment including ensuring required software licenses are appropriately maintained. The Technical Services Coordinator cultivates a climate of academic exploration, creativity, and innovation with the context of safe, well-organized, clean and well-maintained technical facilities. Provide consultation to students and faculty on various types of computer software (word processing, spreadsheets, database, desktop publishing, 3D modeling, CAD, and GIS, etc.)


Required Qualifications

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Associate's degree and 2- 4 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of CAD to CAM software and output files for 3D printing and CNC routing.
  • Digital 3D modeling skills, specifically Rhinoceros 3D.
  • Knowledge of a variety of shop tools and equipment, including operations and safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot technical issues and escalate them to appropriate parties (IT support, vendors, etc.) as needed.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic setting with changing priorities.
  • Ability to help establish realistic goals and deliver work on schedule.
  • Clear communicator and team player. Must be able to communicate technical language in layman's terms.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail, high degree of concentration and hand/eye coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience supporting education and research in an academic environment.
