Responsibilities: Provide research support to the grant funded VFAR project which is a collaboration between Cornell University and Community Change focused on building a vision, strategic plan, and research infrastructure for equitable health policy. As a core member of the Cornell VFAR team, this individual assists with the planning, coordination, and execution of research related to developing state policy assessments, analyzing qualitative data, producing written reports for and with community partner organizations, presenting research to partners, and coordinating with other team members to complete related tasks. The position also involves engaging with our main partner organization (Community Change) as well as the grassroots community organizations that are supported by our main partner. This includes coordinating and attending meetings with community partners, taking notes, and addressing any follow-up that emerges from those meetings. Additionally, the position will involve working with qualitative data, developing coding schemes, coding data, and drafting reports. There may also be some involvement in focus group research, including writing memos, analyzing focus group data, and writing up the results of the analysis.


Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Excellent written and oral communication skills; reliability; attention to detail; the ability to work as part of a team; and the ability to show initiative. Experience with Windows office applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.


Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree with a social science major is preferred. Prefer experience working with quantitative or qualitative data including data collection, coding, management, and analysis; Excellent organizational skills and ability to monitor details; Ability to balance multiple tasks. Ability to initiate own work schedule and solve problems; must be self-starter.

Data Collection and Analysis (50%) Collect and organize data for state policy assessments and focus groups; Serve as note taker and coordinate meetings. Assist with the development of coding schemes for qualitative data analyses and code data. Meet with other coders to establish inter rater reliability. Synthesize data for VFAR team discussion and use. Assist with developing reports and recommendations based on data analyses for various audiences including main partner organization and other community partners.


Data Collection and Management (30%) Manage state assessment data and research: keep track of what information has been collected for each state and what is needed; monitor completeness of data; communicate with community partners on data collection as needed.

GENERAL SUPPORT (20%) Assist with compiling and assembling resources for partner organizations as needed. Assist in developing presentations as well as additional resources and tools. Participate in VFAR team meetings. Assist with online research as needed.
