Medical Technologist I - Clinical Pathology (CVM)

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks a Medical Technologist to join the Clinical Pathology team. The Medical Technologist I performs accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical pathology testing of veterinary specimens to support the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and monitoring of disease. Testing methods include the areas of hematology, chemistry, cytology, immunology, and urinalysis. This role adheres to the standards set forth by AAVLD, GLP, and ISO 17025, as well as the organizational quality management system's policies and procedures. Testing performed, supports diagnostic services for veterinarians, academic and biomedical research, and the life sciences industry.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Biological Science, Animal Science, Medical Laboratory Science or other related discipline and up to two years working in a laboratory setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficient with standard software, with the ability to learn new software quickly.
• Excellent self-management practices to successfully oversee and organize competing priorities to meet deadlines.
• Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with tact and discretion.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify and troubleshoot issues with results and instrumentation.
• Must be self-motivated and willing to take initiative to continue learning.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at benches, workstations or while using laboratory equipment.

Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Preferred Qualifications

• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification.
• Experience working in an organization with an established quality assurance program.
• Successful work experience in a fast-paced, complex, client-oriented environment.
• Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Important Details about the Position

• This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
• This is a full-time three-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
• We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
• Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

This position is 39 hours per week. While normal business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, unit hours are 8:00 am to 5:30 pm and specific schedules may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, University holidays and scheduled breaks.

The Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) is a high visibility and high-volume veterinary diagnostic laboratory that promotes the health, productivity, and welfare of food-and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and wildlife populations. Through its comprehensive veterinary diagnostic services, the AHDC detects animal diseases and supports animal and public health, promotes environmental stewardship, and fosters economic growth.

The Clinical Pathology (CP) laboratory section of the Animal Health Diagnostic Center provides timely, comprehensive, and accurate laboratory testing of animal specimens in the areas of hematology, diagnostic cytology, clinical chemistry and immunology, and urinalysis. We provide diagnostic testing and professional consultation services to the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, to researchers affiliated with Cornell University and to private veterinary practitioners and researchers throughout New York, the USA, and worldwide.
