Cornell University, a nationally ranked Ivy League institution, is looking for a Director of Development in the SC Johnson College of Business to join the Alumni Affairs & Development division in the city of Ithaca, NY.The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business is comprised of three schools: the Nolan School of Hotel Administration, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson). The college delivers undergraduate, graduate, and professional business programs and initiatives creating collaborative, comprehensive business management practices with roughly 250 faculty, 900 staff, more than 4,000 students, and over 48,000 alumni.

Key Responsibilities


The Director of Development in the SC Johnson College is responsible for the strategic management of a comprehensive development program which executes on the dean's strategic philanthropic priorities. In partnership with the Associate Dean, the Director of Development leads the college's major gifts fundraising program. The Director of Development manages and mentors the major gift fundraising team, currently comprised of 6 frontline fundraisers, 2 Major Gift Associates, and 2 Administrative Assistants, for the College and serves as point person/liaison with the central Major Gifts organization. The Director of Development oversees prospect management among MGO's in the SC Johnson College AAD office.


The Director of Development is responsible for managing relationships with individual giving officers outside of the SC Johnson College to assist with prospect strategies that further enhance awareness of and support for the SC Johnson College among major gift prospects. The Director of Development is frequently in contact with individuals outside of the University as well as with members of the college's faculty and staff and members of the Division of Alumni Affairs and Development.


The Director of Development manages a small portfolio (20) of alumni, parents, and friends.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 to 10 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding cultural differences.
  • Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Able to prioritize multiple projects/assignments under pressure with extremely tight deadlines. Excellent planning, coordinating, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in planning, executing, and staffing special events. Strong interpersonal skills and effective oral & written communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Negotiating skills.
  • Flexibility, good judgment, integrity, sense of humor, and agility are essential.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel.

Travel and working evenings and weekends will be required.


This position is based in Ithaca, NY with hybrid work arrangements.
