Advance Local Trending TV News Writer in Iselin, New Jersey
Job Description
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are at the core of our mission to strengthen and empower the communities we serve.
Do you love watching TV, talking about TV, and writing about TV? Can you write tightly - with lightning speed and an engaging voice - on a variety of topics?
NJ Advance Media is searching for an enthusiastic, self-starting, digitally savvy journalist to help us build on our already expansive reach while covering the biggest and hottest stories in the television world.
This person will write quick-hitting stories about popular shows on cable, network, and streaming services, with a particular focus on reality TV like The Bachelor franchise, Love is Blind, The Voice, American Idol, Sister Wives, and Survivor .
This role is not about recapping TV episodes or reviewing shows, but rather tapping into the buzzy angles of trending TV. We want someone who has their finger on the pulse, whether it's writing about a shocking ending to Big Brother, a primer to the new Squid Game season, or a viral moment from Wheel of Fortune .
We are looking for someone who is eager to serve an audience of both fellow TV fanatics who love to consume content about their favorite shows, as well as curious users who can't resist reading about whatever topic people are talking about on a given day.
Candidates should be able to write multiple stories per day, understand the importance of SEO, and be comfortable publishing content on deadline, including nights and weekends when necessary. The role requires the ability to work flexible hours, based on the TV calendar.
The base salary range is $53,000 - $60,000 per year.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
Strong writing skills with a command of grammar and AP style
Clever SEO skills that will adapt to moving goal posts
Exceptional time management and organizational skills
Familiarity with sourcing content ideas from X, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media platforms
A commitment to fairness, professionalism, ethics and diversity
You should apply if you have:
A degree in journalism, communications, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 1 year of journalism experience, ideally in trending writing
Knowledge of SEO best practices with an understanding of Google Trends and Discover
An ability to work independently while prioritizing tasks appropriately
The poise and organization to handle multiple tasks at once at a fast-moving pace
A passion for digesting data and understanding audience metrics
A competitive nature and mindset
To be considered for the position, please submit a resume and any additional information or clips showing prior work in SEO, trending TV writing, or comparable content.
