The Test Engineer provides a range of expertise in setting up and conducting complex product design validation and qualification testing. The ideal candidate is a skilled electrical engineer with excellent mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solver with a thorough understanding of various tools and equipment for testing within the military/aerospace industry. Experience in LabVIEW and automation is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Responsible for all aspects of testing in the New Product Introduction (NPI) environment including writing of test plans and procedures, design and creation of specialized test equipment, test setup, test execution, data collection and analysis, coordination with outside labs, and test reporting.
• Supports all phases of a product’s life cycle (concept, development, test, production, in-service support).
• Conducts complex qualification testing and provides written reports to project engineers.
• Analyzes requirements, generates derived requirements, and synthesizes test and instrumentation systems from requirements.
• Works across functional boundaries to support systems, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering.
• Designs and develops specialized test equipment for manual and automated testing, and advises on methods of testing.
• Collaborates with 3rd party test facilities in all manner of test related support activities.
• Performs analysis and troubleshooting to determine root causes of failures or anomalies.
• Coordinates and performs qualification testing to ensure products/systems meet design specifications.
• Requires strong oral/written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and advanced troubleshooting skills.
• Will be required to work independently and collaboratively with interdepartmental teams.
• May be required to assist in offsite lab and field tests, and occasional travel may be required. May be required to work variable schedules to support delivery deadlines as required.
• Must be able to lead and direct technical work of technicians.
• Familiarity with AS9100 is desirable.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be a US Citizen
• BS degree (required) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university; and 3+ years relevant experience and/or training. Experience and training in the military/aerospace industry is highly desirable.
• Excellent oral and written communications. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to communicate in English.
• Additionally, requires ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and members from the business community. Ability to write articles for publication and make presentations to customers.
• Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
• Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus and modern algebra.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Develops and adapts to new research principles and techniques for application to product development. Determines nature and scope of testing necessary to meet project requirements. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Personal Computer literate. Microsoft Office required and knowledge of MS Project and Visio. Knowledge of MATLAB, LabVIEW, and Schematic Capture (i.e. ORCAD or equivalent) is required. PCB layout is desirable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Mainly office environment but occasionally working on the shop floor, visiting vendors or conducting repairs or tests in the field.
• Work usually performed in air-conditioned office environment. Some work will occasionally require hands-on manipulation of hardware in shop environment. Shop environment contains hazardous materials, dust, moving equipment, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, and metal chips from cutting, milling, drilling and turning operations. Employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts.
