Amazon Software Development Engineer - Test, Alexa Endpoint Experience in Irvine, California

The AlkAMIE team supports a wide range of charters within Alexa Multi-Modal Devices. Our mission is to delight our customers by creating engaging experiences on the Ambient Home screen. We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET II) to join our team and build highly visible, robust automation tools and frameworks to tackle complex, hard-to-solve problems.

As a SDET champion on the engineering team, you will have an exceptional opportunity to shape the customer experience. You will work backwards from customer needs to identify the right tools and frameworks. This will involve leading test automation efforts for critical, complex projects spanning multiple teams and Amazon businesses. You will own the vision for test infrastructures and invent new mechanisms for safe and quick deployments. You will influence the implementation of the most effective solutions by identifying new ways to enhance test tools, test environments, and reporting mechanisms. You will apply your expertise to improve performance, impact architecture design, and bring cutting-edge products and services to life.

Key job responsibilities

The ideal candidate for this role has a strong track record and proficiency in building efficient and innovative test tools. They are a pragmatic problem-solver with high judgment who brings an experienced perspective to balance quality and strategy trade-offs to meet the needs of Amazon Devices teams. They will bring clarity to complexity, probing assumptions, illuminating pitfalls with data, and fostering shared understanding. They have specialized knowledge analyzing test procedures, inspecting architectures and developing test infrastructure and tools that provide confidence in product quality.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development testing experience

  • 3+ years of test automation frameworks and tools building experience

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

  • Experience debugging, diagnosing, and troubleshooting complex, production software issues

  • Experience designing or supporting low-maintenance automation frameworks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of overall system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance in a database environment

  • Master's degree in computer science

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
