Mechanical Engineer
Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer is a key member of the Engineering team as first responder in the support of new and released products. The Mechanical Engineer shall be responsible for the design maintenance of products that have been released to Manufacturing including; support for production problems, field problems, quality problems, material obsolescence, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Mechanical Engineer will also make and recommend design changes through test and troubleshooting by applying principles and theories of electromechanical design, electronic circuitry and component engineering.

Mechanical:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for product engineering, design and documentation of existing products and extensions as required in the designated product families.
- Project lead on various projects that will encompass design development, ATP's, qualification/testing and coordinating these activities with internal and external resources.
- Design activities will incorporate electrical, optical, and mechanical components primarily in the Switch and Light plate business unit that may also spread into the subsystems and Data Entry Solutions businesses.
Based on the product requirements, this individual will conduct the design, generate the 3D solid modeling using the Solidworks software, and create drawings with dimensional and tolerancing information.
Assign the part numbers for each part and subassembly drawings. Create the BOM structure for transfer to manufacturing.
Interact with internal or external machine/tool shops to have the parts made.
Participate and lead in the product test and improve the design as needed. Upon the completion of the design, this individual will release final drawings into the company manufacturing database. Will also work with manufacturing engineers to develop cost effective assembly process in our facility.
- Assist in all development phases for selected optical technologies, from inception through to product release
- Responsible for optical component and subassembly test development, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting
- Work with Mechanical Engineers and CAD Designers for prototype and pilot detailed design,
- Develops test plans, creates test procedures, performs tests and data reduction and evaluates test data. Modifies designs based upon test results, if necessary,
- Analyze problems in existing systems, plans and conducts investigations, and develops solution proposals,
- Interface with manufacturing engineering to develop and implements designs that improve manufacturability,
- Interface with manufacturing personnel to coordinate the build of modified or new prototype assemblies,
- Interfaces with purchasing to obtain prototype components for use in assemblies.
- B.S. or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in product development from the design to manufacturing phase.
- A team player with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with various departments and all level of personnel with diplomacy and emotional maturity.
- Able to ake independent decisions and set priorities based on technical and business trade-offs.
- Be self-motivated, project and schedule driven, and able to perform tasks with minimum supervision
- Must have an entrepreneurial attitude with strong desire of not only technical side but also the financial, sales, marketing, and manufacturing practices essential to building a successful business.
- Basic principles of electronics, electro-mechanical devices and assembly, materials Plastic molding and stamping technology, MIL-SPEC/STD and Defense Logistics Agency requirements for switches and lighted face plates or equivalent experience.
- Technical proficiency in ruggedized product design and familiarity of specifications including MIL-PRF 22885, MIL-3009, MIL-STD-810F, government agency approvals and others as needed.
