Harris is hiring for a Biological Monitor who will be onsite during ground-disturbing activities that have potential to affect biological resources and will be the principal agent(s) in the direct implementation of project environmental documents and permits.
Responsibilities
Environmental (biological) compliance monitoring during active construction
Regular inspections for compliance with all measures and conditions relating to biological and environmental resources and considerations in approved project documents and permits
Documentation of project compliances and non-compliances in daily, weekly, and monthly reports
Write annual reports of project environmental compliance
Communicate with mitigation manager, general contractor, construction personnel
Communicate and coordinate with project biologists conducting sensitive species surveys
Interpreting and monitoring sensitive species behavior to provide information critical to project activities to project biologist and mitigation manager
Working in extreme temperatures in a desert environment
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor of Science degree in field related to Biology, Ecology, or Natural Resources
At least one year of construction monitoring experience
General knowledge and experience identifying plants and wildlife of Coachella Valley
Map reading and field survey techniques
Highly motivated with excellent documentation skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
Experience with sensitive wildlife and plant species of the Coachella Valley, including, but not limited to, western burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia ssp. hypugaea)
Experience with nesting bird surveys, and identification of breeding bird behavior
Work Environment
The incumbent must be capable of working in temperature extremes for long hours and be able to handle strenuous physical activity and conditions (i.e., hiking for hours a day while carrying equipment). This position may require to move objects up to 30 pounds.
Compensation & Benefits
The hourly range offered for this position is between $35-$60/hour, dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
