The Supervisor Respiratory Therapy provides daily, shift-to-shift leadership supporting the operations of the department to include assists with orientation of new employees and/ or affiliated students. The Supervisor exhibits excellence in clinical patient care, customer service, critical thinking, schedule management, relationship competencies, organizational skills and acts as a role model. The PCC demonstrates performance consistent with all professional standards of practice and care; mission, vision and policies of the Network. The Director/ manager has empowered this role with the authority and autonomy necessary to ensure the appropriate clinical and customer satisfaction outcomes as well as efficient and effective team processes.

Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

Applicants for this position should be able to collaborate with others in a team setting, have excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude toward problem-solving.

  • 2 year / Associate Degree of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in Respiratory Care or its equivalent (Required)

  • In lieu of the above education requirements, a combination of experience and education will be considered.

  • Certifications/Licensures: (Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) with Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (IPLA))

  • 2+ years: Experience in General and Critical Respiratory Care (Required)

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the standards of care and practice related to the Respiratory Care Department.

  • Must be able to perform duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

  • Coordinates shift staffing needs.

  • Makes staff assignments based on acuity, skill level and competencies for the respective department.

  • Assists with orientation of new employees and respiratory therapy students.

  • Verbally addresses employees regarding work performance.

  • Update, revise and develop policies and procedures for Respiratory Care.

  • Accesses staffing grids and/or Respiratory point system every four hours to ensure adequate staffing levels for current and oncoming shifts.

  • Assists Respiratory Manager by providing input and/or conducting staff performance evaluations.

  • Assists the Respiratory Manager with the financial operations of the units by demonstrating accountability for unit productivity targets.

  • Performs all functions as a registered respiratory therapist, including taking a patient assignment.

  • Participates in monitoring and evaluating data necessary for regulatory purposes or data needed for specific unit goals and objectives as determined by the Director/manager.

  • Supports staff in anticipating problem areas and initiates service recovery as appropriate.

  • Ensures appropriate documentation is completed according to Network policies and procedures.

  • Ensures hand off reports occur between departments and at the end of shift are done per department and unit protocol.

  • Investigate incident reports or quality issues and provide follow – up as needed
