Description

Job Summary:

Performs electrical apparatus work that is brought into the shop. This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, upgrades and repairs to circuit breakers, switchgear, relay panels, reclosers, regulators and transformers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must have extensive knowledge and ability to negotiate best vendor terms, pricing, and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements.

  • Retrofit, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild and test the follow electrical apparatus:

  • 480V-72kV air, vacuum, and SF6 circuit breakers.

  • Switchgear and switches.

  • Reclosers, regulators, and transformers.

  • Operate specialized equipment including primary/secondary current injection test sets, insulation analyzers, contact resistance meters, multi-meters, clamp-on ammeters, breaker time/travel analyzers, power factor test sets, and CT analyzers.

  • Complete required paperwork and ensure test reports are submitted in PowerDB accurately and on time

  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and writing diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.

  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed and personal protective equipment is utilized.

  • Must support management in the planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiar with industry standards such as PEARL, NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.

  • Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.

  • Ability to document projects to insure proper placement of parts and wiring. i.e. diagrams, photos etc.

  • Ability to work independently, while utilizing excellent judgement.

  • PowerDB knowledge is preferred, training will be provided.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to be consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc.

  • Demonstrates organizational skills to include on time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements.

  • Demonstrates the responsibility required to keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations.

Work Environment:

  • Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of Premier Power Maintenance’s office in Indianapolis, IN.

  • Corporate business hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, but depending on the scope of works hours outside of business hours will be required.

  • Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations when working in the field.

  • Must be able to work occasional overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays.

  • Must be able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects.

  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or Military experience is preferred but not required.

  • At least 3 years of experience in an electrical industry (testing, construction, maintenance, and/ or commissioning).

  • Ability to achieve NETA Level II within 12 months of employment.

  • Ability to achieve PEARL Level I within 12 months of employment and Level II within 24 months of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must have or be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs. CDL license preferred.

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.

  • Must be willing to obtain a company paid OSHA 10 hour, NFPA 70-E and, CPR training.
