Position Summary:

The Senior Director, Oncology Communications will primarily be responsible for the development and execution of communications strategies for key Lilly Oncology products, pipeline molecules and initiatives. The job has two primary areas of focus: 1) delivering strategic external communications for product and pipeline scientific presentations, publications, and regulatory milestones and 2) designing and implementing integrated communication strategies aimed at reaching patient and consumer audiences.

The position will report the Associate Vice President, Oncology Corporate Affairs and will be part of the Oncology Corporate Affairs team. It operates cross-functionally within Oncology, as well as with other Communications and Corporate Affairs colleagues, Investor Relations, and affiliates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with oncology cross-functional teams (advocacy, commercial, medical, regulatory, legal, policy, etc.) and other key stakeholders to develop communication strategies and implement tactics that reach key external audiences (patients, HCP, key influencers, advocates, media and caregivers/consumers) and advance business objectives.

  • Manage day-to-day communications activities of assigned portfolio, including direction of a PR agency of record, interaction with media and other key external stakeholders.

  • Prepare/oversee development of all communications materials including press releases, media pitches, social media content, and more.

  • Support product/program related internal communication needs.

  • Partner with communications contacts in our global affiliates.

  • Assist with other communications projects as assigned.

Basic Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of eight years’ experience in a professional communications position (journalist, product communicator, corporate communicator, or related field).

  • Previous experience working on topics related to pharmaceuticals, biotech, healthcare or science.

  • Clear and concise communicator across spoken and written communications.

  • Demonstrated experience in the development and execution of creative and strategic communication plans.

  • Superior writing skills and ability to translate complex messages, data and scientific content into clear, concise, compelling communications for laymen, HCP and consumer audiences.

  • Experience working in the field of oncology and/or knowledge of oncology care and treatments.

  • Strong strategic thinker, problem solver, and agile learner.

  • Experience interacting with and providing appropriate communications counsel and support to senior leaders.

  • Able to influence others; comfortable and confident in speaking up.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to effectively manage projects, including timelines and budgets.

  • Strong relationship building skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and make good trade-off decisions.

Additional Preferences:

  • Understanding of traditional and social media landscapes and how to utilize various channels to maximize impact.

  • Media relations experience and relationships, as well as experience serving as a spokesperson.

  • Experience managing agency partners.

  • Physical Demands/Travel: The physical demands of this job are consistent with an office environment. Approximate US and/or Global travel for this role is 25%.

Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $144,000 to $211,200 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
