V2X is growing! V2X is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team!

The Principal Software Engineer will join our multi-discipline development team in Indianapolis, IN, supporting our F-16 Center Display Unit (CDU) program. The Principal Software Engineer uses and provides creative solutions to complex, technical, system and software integration problems. The multi-discipline team that includes Software, Systems, and Cyber Engineers work closely together to design ideal solutions with the end user and operational needs in mind. The Principal Software Engineer should have experience developing for embedded hardware and applications. The Principal Software Engineer should have strong communication and teaming skills and embrace modern development processes and techniques that improve code quality and productivity. The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for understanding the system and software design of the CDU and the roles that the software components play in that design.

Typical Duties:

The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for leading development, integration, test, and documentation of software for our F-16 CDU product. Integration and test usually occur in our lab in Indianapolis, with final integration done at our customer’s site at Hill Air Force Base. The Principal Software Engineer must be able to work in an agile environment and cross functionally. The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for leading developing software, tailoring reusable software, and integrating software components on development machines and the target hardware. The Principal Software Engineer shares knowledge with other engineers and contributes to maturing and improving our processes and products. Leading adherence to coding standards and best practices, and configuration management of all code is required for this position.

Note: This position will require onsite work, at least 3 days a week.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in software development and software engineering leadership

  • Good communication skills with project management, systems engineering, hardware engineering, other software engineers, and the customer.

  • Knowledge of VxWorks (or Linux) and/or Windows operating system concepts.

  • Ability to understand the software, the hardware that hosts the software, and the system the software fits into, and how all of them work together.

  • Ability to work with systems engineers to develop system and software requirements

  • Ability to estimate software development tasks to support proposals to the customer

  • Ability to lead a software development team to meet system requirements

  • Strong communication and teaming skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to support customer meetings, and integration and installation events.

  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.

  • Be able to reside in the Indianapolis area to support lab testing and other team events.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working in the defense industry

  • Experience working with customers and end-users

  • Experience working with VxWorks or other real-time operating system

  • Experience working with MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, synchro, or other interface protocols

  • Experience working on safety critical and/or safety related embedded systems

  • Current/active DoD Secret level or higher clearance.

  • Familiarity of one or more Agile techniques (LeSS, Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban, SAFe, eXtreme Programming, etc.)

  • Knowledge of cyber engineering and Secure Coding techniques.

  • Experience with Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) like VxWorks Workbench, Eclipse, and MS Visual Studio

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) degree program or equivalent work experience.
