Job Summary: We are looking for a creative self-starter who is proactive, collaborative, and eager to find solutions. As a supportive partner to the Marketing & Communications Director, the Communications Manager will work on both strategic and hands-on projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with writing, editing, basic email marketing, and portal management; they should be familiar with creating communications plans and processes that bring people together; and they should be able to execute plans with precision. We're looking for someone with great attention to detail and enjoys making the complex simple. Organization, flexibility, relationship building, and adaptability are key.

Primary Purpose: As a specialist in internal communications, the ideal candidate will serve as a storyteller and employee advocate, creating experiences that connect our people to our values, and make them feel like they belong as part of the Heritage family. They will have a genuine interest in learning more about our people, values, and industry, and sharing that information with key audiences.

Additionally, there is potential for the Communications Manager to support our ongoing external communications content strategy. They will have an interest in establishing brand thought leadership and an awareness of lead generation strategies.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to create and manage strategic communications plans and campaigns.

  • Generate new communications ideas reflective of Heritage Environmental Services brand messaging and strategic initiatives; develop and deploy an effective channel strategy to achieve optimal engagement.

  • Serve as a loyal, dependable partner to the Marketing & Communications Director, Marketing team members, and colleagues.

  • Create materials that are interesting to read and easily digestible by a diverse employee population.

  • Serve as an employee advocate by effectively communicating important Human Resources, Learning and Development, Wellness, Information Technology, and Employee Benefits messages to a diverse employee base.

  • Write, edit, and distribute internal communications, including but not limited to newsletters, executive writing, critical email updates, email marketing campaigns, blog posts and special publication content.

  • Write, edit, and distribute external communications, including but not limited to blog posts, social media content, magazine articles, advertising copy, product/service marketing collateral, sales support communications, and press releases.

  • Partner with Marketing to develop multi-media materials such as guides, scripts, emails, postcards, flyers, etc.

  • Partner with colleagues to drive communications workflow process from project initiation to execution, approvals, production, proofing, tracking, and archiving.

  • Stay up to date on marketing technologies and industry trends in communications.

  • Develop analytics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies and level of employee understanding and engagement.

  • Collaborate with PR & Media agency partners as needed for relevant external initiatives.

    Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or similar field, or equivalent professional experience

    Experience: Experience managing multiple projects within longer-term communication plans and a minimum of 5 years of internal communications or related experience (demonstrated success in improving audience engagement)
