Manager, Operations - 3rd Shift - Fabrication & Machining

Job Description:

Primary Purpose of Role:

The Manager, Operations will be responsible for fabrication operations across multiple areas and plants. The Manager directly oversees two or more salaried supervisors with indirect management over a large group of hourly employees, both skilled and non-skilled. The Manager is accountable for overall performance of operation on the midnight shift, including both production and plant maintenance. The Manager is responsible not only for the performance of the shift, but will be responsible for leading continuous improvement processes and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage a team of 2+ Supervisors in manufacturing

  • Indirect management of plant maintenance team / deliverables on shift

  • Responsible for selection, training, performance management, and development of employees.

  • Lead daily team meetings to review safety, overall performance, plan for the shift, and other topics as needed.

  • Responsible for managing production schedules and changeovers aligned with daily production needs.

  • Meets production cost, schedules, and quality requirements through the utilization of established manufacturing processes and methods.

  • Facilitates floor operations and removes barriers for supervisors and hourly employees to meet measurable objectives.

  • Provides guidance and coaching to direct reports to drive daily operations and continuous improvement activities.

  • Serves as a role model for employees regarding safety, quality of work, attendance, timeliness, loyalty, mutual respect, and support for organizational teamwork and continuous improvement.

  • Manages personnel, material, and equipment safely and effectively.

  • Maintains and improves Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices including Operator Autonomous Maintenance.

  • Partners with counterparts on other shift to ensure appropriate carry-over between shifts.

  • Leads continuous improvement activities / projects across area on shift

  • Lead OEE improvement across all areas

  • Adheres to and implements the terms of UAW labor agreement

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree and/or equivalent experience

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or closely related field

Experience:

Required:

  • 3+ years prior Supervisory experience in manufacturing setting supporting fabrication/machining departments / processes

Preferred:

  • 5+ years prior Supervisory experience in manufacturing setting supporting fabrication/machining departments / processes Experience directly managing salaried employees with oversight of hourly employees

  • Successful application of continuous improvement activities leading to meeting or exceeding KPI’s

  • Experience working in a Union environment and interacting directly with Union leadership

  • Knowledge of scheduling and other management systems

  • Analytical ability for solving complex problems.

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft tools, Power BI, Workday, Maximo)

  • Ability to adapt to changes in responsibility based on business needs.
