Job Summary

Position is responsible for the coordination and daily operational tasks for facilities, programs, and services at Indy Parks & Recreation. Responsibilities may incorporate all facets of recreational and sports programming, aquatic, day camp, and service delivery in various physical environments and weather conditions. Established policies and procedures control actions. Incumbent is required to exercise occasional independent judgment when there are no available policies and procedures and errors in judgment may cause inconsistencies and inconveniences as well as regulatory and budgetary problems. Ability to recognize the need for intervention with any aspect of the program and to notify the immediate supervisor accordingly is critical. Position reports to Varies.

Position Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and evaluates programs and services to include coordinating aquatic, day camp, recreational, and sports programs, special events, and field trips

  • Schedules classes and assists in leading classes

  • Follows all Indy Parks and Recreation policies and procedures

  • Interacts with the community committees and other assigned committees and boards as requested by supervisor

  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and advising on–site personnel, volunteers, and contractors

  • Supervises all participants’ safety while in the program

  • Coordinates with managers, regional manager, and risk manager to assess and address safety concerns and ensure a safe experience for all park patrons

  • Coordinates daily program communications in house as well as to the community

  • Works with Communications team to develop and implement a marketing/promotion plan for promoting programs and events to surrounding community and appropriate user groups

  • Utilizes social media platforms to highlight programs and services

  • Responsible for proper collection and depositing of revenues

  • May be required to fill out reports and forms

  • Supervises the use of supplies, equipment, and facilities

  • Sets up and break down for regular scheduled activities and events

  • Enforces rules and regulations

  • Responsible for cleanliness and general appearance of work site and provide a positive image between department and community

  • May be responsible for completing inspections and coordinating with supervisors, maintenance teams, risk manager, and DPW to ensure the safety of the park for patrons and staff

  • Supports and assists participants, volunteers, and staff while in program activities

  • Maintains all necessary records and files for reporting and audit

  • Uses software and variety of technology platforms to organize, document, track, and monitor work including, but not limited to, ActiveNet, InforPS, Microsoft Office Suite, Peoplesoft, NeoGov, and WebEx

  • Supports managing customer service relations at the park location including all forms of communication with the public and marketing of programs and services

  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times

Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Physical Education, Recreation Administration, and/or related field preferred. One (1) year of related work experience may be substituted for each year of formal education. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must be self-motivated and dependable. Ability to plan and organize events and meetings to include agendas and timelines. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet various deadlines is a must. Ability to communicate effectively in both forms - oral and written. Must be customer service oriented. Must of knowledge of work processing software such as Word, Excel, and Publisher. Licenses / certifications required: Valid Indiana operator’s license required. Ability to obtain NYSCA Clinician Certification and prefer CPRP (Certified Parks & Recreation Professional) CPR and First Aid Certificate. Candidate must be comfortable working within a diverse organization and have a fluency in and commitment to matters of equity and inclusion.
