Summary:

The Functional Safety Engineer will work in the Product Engineering organization as a key resource on the functional safety team. This engineer will possess expertise on safety standards and have experience developing, implementing, or verifying ISO26262 work products to support safety cases for light duty or heavy duty vehicles. Multiple levels of the organization will look to you for leadership and mentoring as you work with cross-functional teams to satisfy the requirements of functional safety standards. You will represent Allison in customer discussions and interface closely with global integration engineers to understand customer needs and trends in the safety domain.

Responsibilities:

· Guide cross functional teams in the understanding and execution of the ISO 26262 standard using Allison’s supporting processes

· Develop safety requirements for suppliers and support on-going procurement activities to ensure the product’s safety concepts are satisfied

· Develop/guide the creation of Functional Safety design and analysis work products such as HARAs, FSRs, TSRs, DFMEAs, FTAs, etc.

· Perform verification reviews of functional safety work products for adherence to the standard and confirmation that the requirements are satisfied

· Represent Allison in Functional Safety forums with internal and external customers

· Solicit safety requirements and strategies from customers and provide a voice in product development planning

· Present the status of functional safety projects to leadership

· Identify and develop opportunities for process improvements

Experience:

Required:

· 10 + years of experience developing embedded controls in a HW, SW or Systems role

· 3+ years of Functional safety experience with ISO 26262 or similar standard (IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 19014)

· Ability to document clear and concise safety requirements, safety concepts and designs

· Ability to solve problems, troubleshoot, and perform root cause analysis

· Ability to communicate effectively in a cross functional setting with internal teams, customers and suppliers

· Some Travel

Preferred:

· ISO 26262 Certification (FSCAE, FSCP, etc.)

· Experience with Medini Analyze

· Experience with ASPICE or similar development standards in the full product development lifecycle

· Experience with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow

· Embedded software development experience

· Familiarity with ALM tools such as Polarion, DOORS, PTC Integrity to manage changes, requirements and verification activities

· Vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, etc.)

· Experience with powertrain, engine or vehicle control systems in heavy duty vehicle applications

· Experience in systems, hardware or software for Electric Vehicles

· Education Required:

· BS degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline

· Education Preferred:

· MS in Engineering
