Indianapolis Zoo Facilities Manager in Indianapolis, Indiana

The ideal candidate is committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. To have success in this role, the individual must have at least five (5) years of professional experience preferred in facilities management with emphasis in one (1) or more of the following: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry. Prior experience supervising a team is highly desired. A High School Diploma or GED is required. Additional trades certifications are preferred. Associate's or bachelor's degree is a plus.

This is a full-time, forty (40) hour per week, position. Shifts may vary due to emergency situations and peak season demands. Due to the nature of this role, this position is on-call for 24 hours a day and will work evening, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Responsibilities and Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Performs management of personnel functions for 17 employees (e.g., interviewing, evaluating, supervising, counseling, disciplining, directing, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and achieving department objectives within budget.
  • Supports Director with performance related merit increases.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the training and ensures the proper documentation is kept up to date.
  • Responsible for the overall management of the Preventative Management (PM) and Work Order (NodaFi) systems, including but not limited to the assignment of responsibilities, monitoring productivity, and accuracy.
  • Assures that the PM system assures cost effective maintenance and a scheduled maintenance program to provide maintenance by manufacturers specifications.
  • Creates, monitors, and ensures implementation of a preventative maintenance program to assure cost effective maintenance, and a scheduled maintenance program to provide maintenance by manufacturers' specifications.
  • Assists the Director of Facilities with preparation of the annual business plan including preparation of annual operating and capital budget.
  • Manages assigned account lines of the current budget, monitoring expenses for supplies requests and services throughout the year.
  • Manages assigned projects and provides detailed specifications to the Director of Facilities for materials and equipment procurement, bidding of materials and equipment and contracted work.
  • Assists in the planning and the execution of related projects which may include installation of new equipment, replacements, upgrades, and/ or refurbishment of existing equipment.
  • Must have a valid Indiana driver's license or the ability to obtain an Indiana driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire. Must have a driving record insurable by the Zoo's insurance.
  • Ability to detect, assess, identify, and observe surroundings to make sound judgments, along with the ability to communicate verbally, comprehend and decipher information accurately, using a telephone and two-way radio.
  • Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting at least 100 pounds of force occasionally, and or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Ability to transport and move items, exerting at least 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium to perform various jobs.
  • Must be able to safely operate department tools and manual transmission vehicles.
  • Ability to work around equipment that produces a significant noise level.
  • Will be working around mechanical moving parts, live electrical circuits, and exposed to dusty c nditions and outdoor pollens.
