Anticipated salary range: $56,200 - $84,420

What a Sr. Specialist, Rad Safety contributes to Cardinal Health

  • This incumbent reports to the Manager, Radiation Safety.

  • Will assist in designing, developing and implementing Radiation Safety procedures, programs, processes, and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements and to eliminate or minimize radiation risks to the company, its employees, the environment and the communities in which it does business.

Responsibilities

  • Research regulatory issues to ensure compliance with appropriate local, state and federal regulatory agencies (NRC, DOT, EPA, etc.)

  • Coordinates and ensures compliance with daily, weekly and monthly EH&S and radiation safety tasks.

  • Identifies facility safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.

  • Lead and facilitate safety committee meetings to engage employees in improving the safety culture.

  • Provides technical support to facility personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health and radioactive material regulations.

  • Review and lead injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.

  • Performs audits and inspects the facility to ensure compliance with company, local, state and federal regulations.

  • Participates and responds to investigations of environmental health incidents and emergencies and recommends appropriate corrective actions when needed.

  • Identifies possible solutions to a variety of technical problems and takes actions to resolve them.

  • Coordinates all aspects of the environmental health safety management program.

  • Develop the emergency response procedures and acts as the site’s emergency coordinator.

  • Identify potential safety hazards related to radioactive and non-radioactive materials and document these using the Cardinal Health risk assessment program.

  • Provides support and subject matter expertise for events (e.g., regulatory agency inquiries, natural disasters, business continuity, significant incidents, etc.).

  • Informs the Manager, RSO/EHS when situations require follow-up actions.

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Health Physics, Safety Management, Environmental Science or related field, preferred.

  • Certifications in EH&S or Radiation safety preferred and Cardinal Health supports employees in their continuous development.

  • 2 or more years of professional experience in an EHS or Radiation Safety role, preferred.

  • Experience in EH&S: Hazard Waste Compliance, laboratory safety and manufacturing safety, preferred.

  • Familiarity with EHS Management Systems and their successful implementation, preferred.

  • The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment. Strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational abilities, and the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously are essential. The candidate must also be proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently to achieve success.

  • Demonstrates depth and breadth of knowledge in the area of hazard recognition, evaluation and control.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiation monitoring instruments and equipment.

  • Applies working knowledge in the application of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform varied tasks.

  • Ability to maintain current knowledge of federal and state regulations (NRC, DOT, EPA, etc.)

  • Ability to receive Authorized User status on Radioactive Materials license.

  • A successful candidate must be accountable and possess self-motivation.

  • Can apply good judgment within defined parameters.

  • Can perform efficiently under general guidance, may receive more detailed instruction on new projects.

  • Work reviewed by manager for sound reasoning and accuracy.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision from the radiation safety officer (RSO) using health physics principles.

  • Ability to communicate with the regulators such as the NRC in RSOs absence.
