Responsibilities

The Ambulatory Chief Medical Officer provides clinical oversight for the Ascension employed clinician network. This occurs in a way that aligns with the mission, vision and values of Ascension.

  • Acts as an advocate on behalf of our patients, providers, and clinical staff.

  • Develops, implements, and leads the clinical direction of the clinician network.

  • Promotes patient centered care, ensures that decisions respect patients’ wants, needs, and preferences, and that patients have the education and support they need to make decisions and participate in their own care.

  • Oversee the monitoring, measurement and quality improvement of clinical care.

  • Collaborate, develop, and lead the implementation of operational plans.

  • Develop coordinated programs and improved communication vehicles that encourage front-line physician participation, engagement, empowerment and ownership in charting the clinical course and enhancing the reputation and visibility of the local market Health Ministry.

  • Transform practices including adoption of information systems and electronic health records that result in efficient workflows while enhancing provider satisfaction and patient experience.

  • Head the efforts to create a culture of quality and safety consistent with a highly reliable organization.

  • Ensure development of physician leaders including development and preparation of the next generation of physician leaders.

  • Provide ongoing education to medical staff leadership regarding administrative, regulatory and legal issues that surround healthcare reform and the evolving medical crew paradigm at the state and national level.

  • Oversees the development and continuous improvement of services, policies, processes, and programs, including medical practice review, governance, credentialing, privileging, peer review, medical information systems, and telemedicine opportunities.

  • Partner with the Chief Medical Informatics Officer to ensure that data and metrics are accurate, current, well-defined and relevant.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Indiana Medical Licensing Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

  • Licensed Physician MD/DO preferred.

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.

  • A management style which communicates a sense of quality, equality, and inclusiveness; a sensitivity to the issue of diversity and the commitment to developing a mindset and a culture within the hospital which reflects the value of difference.

  • A demonstrated track record in developing clinical programs and services to enhance employee and patient satisfaction, including the development of measurement systems to monitor change over time.

  • A proven ability as a skilled change agent with sensitivity to the interpersonal, organizational, political, perceptual, fiscal, and environmental issues which invariably accompany an organizational change process, across a complex, matrix organization.
