Lilly Associate Biologist - In Vivo in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company, focuses on the discovery of biologic, small molecule and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity and associated complications.

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled person to join our Diabetes/Obesity research team in Indianapolis. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in in-vivo pharmacology and lab skills to support discovery and pipeline projects, focusing on metabolic treatments. Your role includes establishing key lab capabilities and collaborating with scientists to meet project and department objectives. The main tasks involve testing compounds in rodent models for diabetes, obesity, and related diseases.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Engagement in the development, optimization and validation of in vivo experiments and aid in understanding in vivo biology of target engagement. Active involvement in multiple diabetes and obesity target teams.

  • Perform acute and chronic in vivo studies, glucose/insulin tolerance tests and glycemic clamp studies, including animal handling, blood and biopsy collection, measurement of body weight and food intake as well as test article formulation and administration by oral and parenteral routes.

  • Analysis of data in these experiments including presentation of data in spreadsheet and graphical form with descriptive statistical analysis.

  • Perform small animal surgical procedures including, but not limited to, rodent catheterization and mini pump implantation.

Minimum requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in biology/animal science/veterinary technology or a closely related field

  • Minimum 1 year work experience handling animals

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Applicant should be able to arrange, modify and organize methods for in vivo studies and modify procedures when warranted.

  • Experience with rodent metabolic disease models, with some knowledge of small animal surgery techniques.

  • Familiarity in the design and execution of the glycemic clamp technique.

  • Experience working with radioisotopes, chemical, and biological hazards.

  • Additional experience in cell culture and molecular/biochemical techniques would be a plus.

  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting data in a team environment.

  • Proven ability to work in flexible, team-oriented environment.

  • Flexible scheduling is a necessity. The position is full-time (40 hrs/wk), but there is a requirement to work occasionally after-hours or on weekends.
