Burrell Behavioral Health Crisis Specialist II in Independence, Missouri

Job Description:

Job Summary: Assist consumers in addressing the behavioral health needs of those who come into contact with the system’s Health Crisis Line. Relay information to consumers such as how to engage in mental health services, access community resources, and navigate crisis situations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide phone, face-to-face, and mobile crisis intervention as clinically appropriate and document all contacts on appropriate forms.

  • Provides individual, group, family and/or other practical counseling, utilizing his/her experience and ability to meet the needs of the client and the goals of treatment, and engages in any other activities that meet those needs and goals.

  • Assess and facilitate admission to the Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit, as well as, assess clients wishing to be discharged from the Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit for dangerousness.

  • Consult with area law enforcement and/or hospital emergency rooms and advice regarding alternatives for disposition of non-system clients and the system’s clients.

  • Participates in and contributes to the various staff development activities of the system.

  • Provide crisis intervention services and participates in emergency services in order to provide rapid aid in cases of emotional crisis

  • Attend scheduled conference calls, webinars, face-to-face meetings/trainings, and individual and group supervision.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Crisis Services or designee.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Establish effective relationships via telephone and face-to-face contacts.

  • Adaptability (ability to perform effectively in the face of changing job demands)

  • Initiative (taking necessary and appropriate action on one’s own)

  • Able to follow direction and accept supervision

  • Prior to be removed from probationary status, must demonstrate competencies in the required areas of crisis intervention, safety and legal issues, working with law enforcement.

  • Work independently.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in the Human services field

  • Prefer LMSW, LCSW, PLPC, LPC

  • CPR/First aid and CPI certified

Supervisory Requirements:

  • None

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently required to sit and stand for extended periods (2-4 hours); walking may be required for short periods when conducting field-based activities.

  • They must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
